Dining Out in Branson:

Fall Creek Steak and Catfish House Restaurant

When I read about Fall Creek Steak and Catfish House restaurant, and that waiters would fling dinner rolls at patrons, I will admit I was a little apprehensive about visiting this location on our recent trip with Blogging Branson. There are so many restaurants to choose from when dining out in Branson. So is the Fall Creek Steak and Catfish House one of the Best Restaurants in Branson?

Disclaimer: I was invited to a media event as part of #BloggingBranson sponsored by The Stone Castle Hotel & Conference Center. My meal was provided for me. All thoughts, opinions, and ideas are my own!

DINING OUT IN BRANSON, MISSOURI

Fall Creek Steak and Catfish House is located outside the main strip in Branson, Missouri. While I was reluctant to visit this restaurant, I must admit I was hoping that I could have catfish because it has been a long, long, long time since I have had it. You see, being gluten-free causes me great distress when eating out. I have been cross-contaminated so many times and each time it is slightly worse than the last. Because of this I often avoid breaded or fried items. Additionally, catfish is not something readily available in our area.

The Restaurant Atmosphere:

Fall Creek Steak and Catfish House is spacious and has an open floor plan. The entire restaurant is decorated with antiques, reproductions, and novelty items. When you first walk in, you enter a small gift shop that has items such as unique pops (that is what we call soda in Ohio), candies, and souvenir items.

Once you enter the main dining room, you are treated to the likes of The Blues Brothers, the Incredible Hulk, and gas station signs. The walls and ceilings are adorned from top to bottom! This adds to the down-home country atmosphere.

The Entertainment:

Once we were seated, we were then treated to hand tossed rolls. And let me tell you about the hand tossed rolls. CJ Newsom from CJ Newsom’s Classic Country and Comedy Show came to serenade us while serving the rolls. Not only did she have a terrific voice, but she tossed those rolls like an expert. Make sure to watch the video.

THE MENU:

To say I was pleasantly surprised with my meal would be an understatement. We were given a limited menu to choose from. After asking my waitress numerous times about their gluten-free items, a manager came over to assist me. He assured me that the catfish was not only gluten-free, but it would be fried in a fryer without any gluten items. This always makes me happy. However, he did tell me that I would not be able to have the hush puppies.

We were brought an awesome blossom which is a breaded and deep fried onion served with secret sauce. This was not gluten-free, but I was told that it was delicious.

Fall Creek has a limited group menu. We were given the following lunch options: Southern Fried Fish, Country Fried Steak, BBQ Beef Sandwich or Grilled Chicken Sandwich.

My food was tasty, delicious and more than satisfying. And my husband also enjoyed his food.

The Gluten Issue:

When my food was brought out, there were hush puppies on my plate. The person bringing the food was not the waitress or the manager. They did bring me another meal, and the manager did apologize.

My main takeaways when traveling and eating out with food allergies/intolerances:

Be diligent and ask plenty of questions

Know which items are safe to eat. If you are not comfortable with the answers you are given, ask to speak with a manager and/or chef.

Know sources of gluten and do not expect other people to always know what you can and can’t eat.

There are so many restaurants to eat at in Branson, Missouri, and I would list Fall Creek Steak and Catfish House Restaurant as a fantastic dining choice. It is one of the best restaurants in Branson. In fact, I would go back again the next time we are in Branson. Even the best restaurants have mishaps when it comes to food intolerances. I have learned how to be my own advocate which is the secret to dining out successfully.

When we were done eating, we did encounter a Barney Fife impersonator. He graciously took photos with us. He is also part of the CJ Newsom’s show.
