What ARE Your Top 10 Disney Movies?

You have your list! Yeah!!!! What’s better than making a list? For me, it is comparing my list to someone else’s lists!

I love to compare mine with other people’s lists. I will give you the list of my top ten Disney movies in a bit. However, I first want to tell you about the book Top Disney. Lucas states that, ” these lists were compiled by me based on years of Disney research. Though there are films that are my personal favorites…I could not justify putting them on a list when they were not a consensus top ten in their category according to the experts and fans.”

Top Disney Book Review

There are 100 Lists in this book. However, I have only skimmed it because I want to make my own lists before comparing them to the list that Lucas has compiled. But with 100 lists, I will be making lists for a long time! This book is fun, easy to read and full of history and facts for all Disney-loving fans and experts.

Looking at the contents, this book is jam-packed with everything from The Disney Company, movies, Disney Parks, television, Cast Members, and even Disney Characters.

My Personal Top 10 Disney Movie List:

So my list of Top Ten Disney Movies (I have excluded Pixar) in no particular order:

Mary Poppins (1964):

This is my number one Disney movie. I love everything about this movie – from the music to Julie Andrews. This musical hit is practically perfect in every way.

Beauty and the Beast (animated) (1991)

Out of all the Disney Princess movies, this one tops my list. Belle is sweet, endearing, and clearly has a great heart. And the Beast, Chip, Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, and Cogsworth, all are wonderful. Every single song in this movie is fantastic.

Robin Hood (1973)

Animated classic that uses animals as all the characters. Classic Robin Hood story with a Disney twist.

Peter Pan (1953)

An animated film that captures the essence of childhood. Peter Pan is a classic that continues to delight audiences 65+ years later.

The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin (1967)

A resourceful butler finds himself in California during the Gold Rush.

The Reluctant Dragon (1941)

The guide for the movie is prepared to present a movie idea to Walt Disney. As he navigates the Walt Disney Studio, he shows us how a cartoon is made through art, sound, and color. He meets Donald, Pluto, Goofy, and other Disney favorites. Eventually, he finds Walt and watches an animated short titled “The Reluctant Dragon.”

The Absent-Minded Professor (1961)

Fred McMurray – what more can I say! In Top Disney, you find out facts such as where the actual Medfield College scenes were filmed.

The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh (1977)

Pooh is my all-time favorite character. Therefore, this movie is a must on my list.

The Rocketeer (1991)

Sometimes a movie brings back such fond memories that it has to be a classic to you. One of my children thought he was The Rocketeer and convinced his older brother to make a helmet and rocket pack.

Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken (1991)

Based on a true story, this movie is about a horse and rider diving off a high dive into the water below. This amazing story will inspire you to reach higher!

Now, Lucas does a great job of creating Top Ten Lists, and he does it by splitting everything into two eras – “Classic” and “Modern”. The term “classic” is defined from the founding of Disney Studios in 1923 to 1988 when the last of Disney’s “old guard of animators” retired. The Modern era begins in 1989 and continues until 2017.

And then he breaks down lists even further, such as Live-Action Musicals (Classic) and Live-Action Musicals (Modern) or Disney Animated (Classic) and Disney Animated (Modern). Therefore, there are plenty of categories for your favorite films to make the cut.
