Ways to Reduce Stress Pooh Style

When you are feeling stressed, what do you do? We all have unique ways of coping, but it seems that the wisdom of Winnie-the-Pooh is so simple that it just works. Winnie the Pooh is just such a lovable character, and he certainly has a charm that transcends generations. So let’s look at ways to reduce stress Pooh style.

8 Ways to Reduce Stress Pooh Style

1) WHEN STRESSED, GO BACK TO THE LAST PLACE YOU WERE HAPPY

Sometimes it takes finding your happy place. Winnie-the-Pooh knows his happy place. Where was the last place you smiled? Was it with some people or a particular time in your past? What about this place or these people make you happy?

Sometimes we can’t physically go back to a place in time or connect with certain people, but we can recreate happy times and places. I loved playing with my sisters in my childhood, but I can’t make myself small again. However, I can recreate those same feelings when I play with my granddaughters. I had forgotten how much fun I had playing with my grandmother’s button collection until I watched my granddaughters playing with mine.

Additionally, sometimes we can’t be with the peopole we love, but we have so many technologies that allow us to see our loved ones real-time. Take advantage of those options to see and hear your loved ones.

2) WHEN STRESSED, SURROUND YOURSELF WITH TRUE FRIENDS

Pooh knows who his friends are, and he makes sure to spend time with them. His friends are a little quirky, but that doesn’t matter. Assess who you spend time with. Are those people friends? Are they a comfort to you? Do they make you a better version of yourself? If you can’t answer yes to these questions, get yourself some new friends!

3) SIT IN A THINKING SPOT

When dealing with stress Pooh style, where does one go to think? There are two places that I do my best thinking. When I am feeling particularly crazy, grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting in my thinking spot will immediately help to clear my mind and release stress.

4) PLAY POOH STICKS

Pooh and Christopher Robin stand on a bridge and drop sticks. They then go to the opposite railing and watch to see the sticks drift out from under the bridge. Being around moving water, whether it’s a fountain, creek, or waves at the ocean, is calming and helps to relieve stress. The sound of moving water is soothing to the soul.

5) PLAY “SAY WHAT YOU SEE”

In Disney’s Christopher Robin, Pooh is playing a game by himself. He looks out the train window and just says what he sees, “Sheep,” “Dog,” “Car,” etc. This simple game is very calming. If you are feeling particularly stressed, put down everything you are doing, look forward and just “Say What You See.” When we are stressed sometimes we can’t see clearly. Saying what you see helps bring you back to reality!

6) LOOK AT THE WORLD THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD

In Disney’s Christopher Robin, Pooh mistakenly thinks the kitchen shelves are ladders and tries to climb them. Many times we think our problems are huge and the stress in our lives is insurmountable. However, sometimes looking at things from a different angle gives you the ability to see things in a way you never imagined. Sit or lie on the floor, look up, look around. You may see something that wasn’t there before.

7) NOT EVERYTHING IS A WOOZLE

When Pooh and Piglet go looking for Woozles, they keep finding more and more tracks. Eventually, Christopher Robin finds Pooh and points out the obvious. Pooh and Piglet were going in circles creating more and more tracks each time around. Sometimes we are stressed because we are walking in circles and can’t tell where we have been.

After Pooh thinks for a moment, he says, “I have been Foolish and Deluded.” Sometimes bringing in another advisor – friend, neighbor, etc., helps us to realize the foolishness in stressing ourselves out.

8) HAVE A SPOT OF HONEY

Problems always seem worse when you have a rumbly in your tummy. I know that when I am particularly stressed, I forget to eat and drink, which is not helpful at all. I have actually been known to open the cupboard and have a spoon of honey. Having a little honey and some tea is a great stress reliever. Winnie-the-Pooh is a bear of very little brain, but he offers us much wisdom in his simple thinking. Sometimes we over complicate our lives and we just need to simplify to see a situation with clarity.
