The Grinch 2018 Movie Review

WHAT’S THE CONDITION OF YOUR HEART THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON?

Within the first 10 minutes of The Grinch, I had a serious heart check. “I’m not complaining; I’m venting.” THIS.IS.ME. Those words were something I have said multiple times this week. As I rush about with an overfilled schedule, I feel overwhelmed. And then I complain and say, “I’m venting.” But the people who love me oftentimes feel like I’m complaining. So in The Grinch 2018 Movie Review, I will attempt to help you grow your heart while I tell you the hits and misses of this latest remake of the beloved Dr. Seuss classic.

As I watched this version of The Grinch, I realized that I feel more Grinch-like than I should. I am often tired and have allowed my heart to be a little too small. My circumstances have changed who I am. Within minutes of the start of this film, I realized that I need to take the message of this movie to heart. I need to stop and see the positive side of people and places.

Your a mean one, Mr. Grinch

But outside of this movie smacking me upside the head and getting me to understand who I have been lately, does it deliver a great movie experience? I will share with you the hits and misses in the Illuminations version of The Grinch from a mom’s point of view.

The Hits: The Grinch 2018 Movie Review

Illuminations Studios does an excellent job with the visual effects. In this version, Benedict Cumberbatch plays The Grinch. And while The Grinch may be stealing Christmas, it is Cindy Lou who steals the show. She is absolutely adorable. And her mother, Donna Lou (Rashida Jones) is just as sweet as Cindy Lou.

This movie follows the original storyline of The Grinch who hates Christmas, however, there are a few additions and twists. The Grinch still tries to steal Christmas by taking the trees, stockings and toys, decorations, and even the roast beast.

The Grinch 2018 Movie Review

There were funny moments, tender moments, adorable moments, and even moments that brought me to tears. This movie delivers just enough tug on your heartstrings to make it a classic Christmas movie.

Music: The Christmas music was spot on for a Christmas show. My family was pleasantly surprised to hear God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Silent Night. Real Christmas Songs in a Christmas Movie.

Additionally, there is absolutely no foul language. In fact, there is little to take issue with from a content standpoint. The only issue in this movie is the fact that the Grinch steals.

The Misses:

“Back in my day, our Grinch didn’t have any rapping in it.” – Quote from Marcus Moliterno. Some of the music in the movie was not appreciated by my family.

There were also a few moments that I felt thought could have been cut out of the movie because it didn’t add anything to the plot.

THE GRINCH 2018 MOVIE REVIEW: MY FINAL ANALYSIS

My recommendation for this movie that it is suitable for all ages. However, at 90 minutes it may be a little long for some children. All in all, this movie will delight your family this Christmas season. It will help to reinforce the overall message that Christmas isn’t about presents or trees, but about spending time with loved ones. In the end, you may find yourself complaining a little less as your heart grows 3 sizes. Merry Christmas!
