IN WHICH CHRISTOPHER ROBIN GETS LOST AND FINDS HIMSELF AGAIN
Do you ever think of your childhood? What were your favorite games or toys? Did you have a favorite Disney character? These may be things you haven’t thought of in years. If so, you may be lost. If you have ever stumbled across my site before, you most likely know that Winnie-the-Pooh is my all time favorite character. I love the Pooh books, and I act like a five-year-old anytime I am in the presence of Winnie the Pooh. Pooh has the ability to help me find myself. Furthermore, if you have ever read a Winnie-the-Pooh book you know that each chapter starts with an “In Which. . .” Statement. Disney’s latest movie should be subtitled In Which Christopher Robin Gets Lost and Finds Himself Again.
Disney’s Christopher Robin is a live-action film starring Ewan McGregor as a grown Christopher. Pooh and Tigger are voiced by Jim Cummings who has been the voice of Pooh since 1988, and he began voicing Tigger in 1989.
DISNEY’S CHRISTOPHER ROBIN: THE GOOD
There are so many wonderful things about this movie. It is charming, delightful, and heart-warming. When the film opens, Christopher is a small boy playing with his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. The film-makers do an excellent job of showing us how Christopher grows up without spending too much of the film on the process.
There were many laugh-out-loud moments mostly during the interaction between Christopher and Pooh, and yet, it is those same characters that have you shedding tears. This movie is THE feel-good film of the year.
IN WHICH CHRISTOPHER ROBIN GETS LOST AND FINDS HIMSELF: THE SAD
The opening sequence is very sad, as it follows young Christopher Robin growing up and letting go of his childhood. However, the sad scenes are portrayed in a manner that should not bother young children. There is a scene depicting war, but it is brief. The next clip shows soldiers returning from war, and some are injured. This too is a brief moment. Some additional scenes occur throughout the movie when it is apparent Christopher has “grown up” and forgotten who he was. Some of these scenes had me crying, but my children do not understand leaving your childhood behind so these scenes didn’t bother them.
MY RECOMMENDATION:
Obviously, you should go see this movie. Take the whole family or go with just your honey! This movie is suitable for the entire family, but it may be too slow moving for the younger children. If you are going to see only one movie this summer, Christopher Robin must be the movie you see. It is sure to warm the hearts of even the grown-ups that have forgotten how to be a child.
