What’s the Deal with the Online Curriculum from SchoolhouseTeachers.Com?HOMESCHOOL REVIEW

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product as a member of the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review, nor was I compensated in any other way.

I am going to let you in on a little secret. Even though I live in the online world of blogging, have reviewed homeschool curriculum for over a decade, written Christian movie reviews online for over 15 years, am a social media marketer, and teach others how to navigate online, I hate online courses. Yes, I do online classes because it is how the world rolls, but I would rather sit in a classroom with other people and have human interaction. So when I was asked to review what I believed to be an online curriculum, I balked.

This is my first review as part of the Homeschool Review Crew of The Old Schoolhouse. How in the world was I going to do this? But, I am always eager to try to stretch and grow, so I reluctantly agreed to review SchoolhouseTeachers.Com and The Ultimate PreK-12 Annual Membership.

SchoolhouseTeachers.Com Review

WHAT IS SCHOOLHOUSETEACHERS.COM?

First, let me admit that my original views were so shortsighted. Once I really took a look around SchoolhouseTeachers.com, I began to see that it wasn’t what I thought it was.

So what is SchoolhouseTeachers.com?

  1. SchoolhouseTeachers.Com is a division of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.
  2. It is a membership site. Pay one low price and get all the courses offered Preschool through 12th grade (and even some courses for the parents!).
  3. Pay monthly or annually and have access for all your children.
  4. All subjects – all grade levels – one price.
  5. Courses that cover ESL (English as a Second Language), Special Needs Learning, Help with Reading, Career Choices, and more.
  6. The ability to select one course or everything you need to teach all your children.
  7. Furthermore, you can mix and match to fit your needs. Select 5th-grade math, 3rd-grade art, and 6th-grade music to truly customize your child’s learning and abilities.
  8. Lesson Plans already done for you with Scope and Sequences added too!

WHAT I AM MOST EXCITED ABOUT

As I used, explored and reviewed this homeschool curriculum, I really became excited about really delving into all of their material. Not only is this an excellent fit for my sons at home, but I think my daughter-in-law will love it for my granddaughters. The Preschool and Kindergarten material looks absolutely adorable. I am actually thinking of gifting her a membership for next year.

HOW I AM USING SCHOOLHOUSETEACHERS.COM

In my household, I am using SchoolhouseTeachers to supplement what I already have. Since I have been home educating for 26 years, I have lots of books and a lot of curriculum. I have reviewed a ton of homeschool curriculum.

I have some favorites that I will continue to use, but through this online site, I have found some new favorites that I to incorporate into my daily plan. The ease with which I can do this amazes me. The flexibility I have found with using this form of education is amazing.

For Jack-Jack, I selected 4th-grade Health – we have learned about the importance of caring for our bodies, including drinking more water, eating healthy, and the dangers of smoking.

For Marcus, (who is 17 and in 11th grade), there were so many classes that I wanted him to explore. However, we can’t possibly fit them all in. This is where I let him sit down and help me design his own course load. Of course, he wanted to explore Web Game Design, and what 17-year-old boy doesn’t want to be a game designer? My negotiations with him stipulated that he also take Microsoft Excel Functions.

My Ultimate Homeschool Curriculum Review and Thoughts:

As SchoolHouseTeachers.com adds more classes, they are included for you at no additional charge. I am keeping an eye out for even more classes that my kids may want to take. I am really excited to add online electives.

The Ultimate PreK-12 Annual Membership is so affordable that no parent should ever say they can’t afford to homeschool.

In addition, by only utilizing only 1-2 classes for 1 child, you already have saved money, but just think of the savings with using this valuable online resource with all your children!

Another great value is that sometimes I just need a break, but my children still need something to do. This is perfect for those moments that I am just overwhelmed, sick or burned out.

Lastly, and most importantly, all classes are designed with a Christian Worldview. This is of utmost importance to me and my family.
