DisneyNature Elephant: An Elephant Never Forgets
An elephant never forgets! And this concept is shown doing the DisneyNature Elephant documentary which is narrated by Meghan Markle (former Duchess of Sussex). However, the real star of the show is Jomo. Jomo is an adorable baby elephant. Can you say BABY Elephant?
Do you know there are two types of elephants? There are Asain Elephants and African Elephants. DisneyNature Elephant focuses on a family of African elephants. Jomo and his mother, Shani, make a journey across the Kalahari desert. Jomo is one year old and this is his first time to make this trek that his mother, and Gaia, Shani’s older sister and the matriarch of the herd, have made over and over.
What is DisneyNature Elephant? Where can I Watch?
DisneyNature Elephant premiered on Disney+ on April 3, 2020, and features African elephants on the Kalahari desert. From the beginning of the show, we watch these African elephants and fall in love with them. As they make a journey from the Okavango delta to the Zambezi river, the viewer can see how elephants take care of one another.
As the water dries up in the delta, the trek is necessary to ensure the herd has a supply of water. However, even though they must make the trek for survival, the elephants don’t just take care of themselves; they make sure to look out for the entire herd.
The Positive Aspects of DisneyNature Elephant
This beautiful movie is stunning, beautiful and entertaining. Watching the trek of this family of elephants back and forth across the desert while they follow their water source enables the viewer to connect with generations of these amazing animals.
It is amazing to think of the time and talent necessary to follow these elephants and capture them in their natural elements. These filmmakers are extremely gifted and Disney never fails to inspire, educate, and give you a glimpse of life from a different viewpoint.
The Negative Aspects of Elephant
While there are very few negatives in this film, there were moments that were intense. In one scene a baby elephant is stuck in the mud. We watch as Gaia works to try to save him. There is another scene where we watch an older elephant pass away. While this is done in a dramatic manner, it is still a sad moment.
VIEWING RECOMMENDATIONS
So should you watch DisneyNature Elephant? Absolutely! This is a story of family and community. A story of perseverance and overcoming obstacles. Watching these huge creatures navigate their world is educational, enlightening, and entertaining.
I have to admit that my very favorite part was Jomo, the baby elephant. In fact, he had many “Dumbo-like” qualities that were endearing. You will not regret watching this film.
