THE PERFECT MOTHER’S DAY GIFT
Did you know the Eastwood Mall has been named the “Best Mall in Ohio” by USA Today? So if you are looking for the best Mother’s Day gift, why not shop at the best mall in the state? Recently I perused the Eastwood Mall in Niles, Ohio for Mother’s Day gifts. If you are reading this you most likely are looking for that perfect gift. Your mother is someone very special, and you want to get her something that conveys how much she means to you. Well, I have something important to tell you. There is no perfect Mother’s Day gift. Mothers are all so different, ranging in age, interests, and love languages, and so one gift doesn’t fit all mothers.
USING THE FIVE LOVE LANGUAGES TO PICK THE PERFECT MOTHER’S DAY GIFT
But I am going to share some tips with you to help you pick the perfect gift for your mother. You have probably known your mother for your whole life. Just answer a few simple questions, and then we can start to explore gifts for your mom. These questions are based on the very popular 5 Love Languages book. This book proposes that we all have very specific ways we receive love. Many people have a dominant love language and then a secondary one. Think about the following questions and how they apply to your mother.
LOVE LANGUAGE 1: WORDS OF AFFIRMATION
When you talk with you mother, does she say phrases like, “I never hear from you,” or “I wish you would call more often?” If so, your mother may like to hear words affirming that she is a great mother.
Give her a gift with uplifting words such as these plaques from T.J. Maxx or a t-shirt with her favorite saying from Lion and the Lamb Christian Resource.
LOVE LANGUAGE 2: QUALITY TIME
Do you hear things like, “I wish I could see you more often,” or “We never spend time together?” If so, your mother may like the gift of time spent with you.
My daughter and I love to spend time together, and so gifts from her usually are a day out, shopping, laughing and having fun, and eating out with a stop at Starbucks for a cup of coffee.
For this gift, your mom is just looking for the gift of time. Take her to the Best Mall in Ohio for dinner at Outback Steakhouse, Buffalo Wild Wings, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill or one of the other 30+ dining locations to fit every budget, and sneak in a movie with 2 theaters to choose from (Regal Cinema and Encore Cinema).
LOVE LANGUAGE 3: ACTS OF SERVICE
Does your mom say, “The next time you come over can you help me sweep behind the refrigerator? or “I really need help moving this desk?” If this is your mother, she would like a gift of service.
Purchase cleaning supplies from Target, Ollies, Home Depot, Big Lots, or TJ Maxx. Just make sure to include a certificate for cleaning done by you!
How about the gift of service for her car. Take her car to get an oil change at Sears Auto Center or Pep Boys, and while you are at the Eastwood Mall make sure to get her lunch!
LOVE LANGUAGE 4: GIFTS
Does your mother post a list of things she would love you to buy? Does she circle pictures in a magazine of gifts she wants? Or does she say, “Isn’t that necklace pretty?” If so, you will have an easier time buying gifts for your mom. Her love language is most likely gifts, and she probably opens every gift with the exclamation, “Oh, I love it!”
Here are some of my best and/or unique suggestions for gifts for your mom.
FOR THE TRAVELING MOM: If your mom likes to travel, purchase her some beautiful and colorful luggage from Dillard’s Clearance Store. Her bag won’t get lost in the sea of black bags coming down the turnstile at the airport.
FOR THE SPORTS FAN MOM: Everthing Buckeyes, Etc. has a great selection of Ohio State Buckeyes clothing, chairs, hats, and even light fixtures. For other team apparel, visit Dick’s Sporting Goods.
DOES YOUR MOM LOVE JEWELRY? Pandora offers such a wide range of beautiful gifts just for mom. I have a Pandora bracelet filled with Disney charms, and it has been one of my favorite gifts, and the beauty of this gift is you can buy a charm for the next several Mother’s Days.
DOES YOUR MOTHER LOVE TO READ? I am in need of a new Bible, but any inspirational book is great for me. Visit BAM! (Books-Toys-Tech-More) for the book loving mom. Pair the book with a new mug (also available at BAM), and your mom will be in her happy place sipping her favorite beverage and thinking about what a great child she has!
DOES YOUR MOTHER LOVE BEAUTIFUL THINGS? These Sid Dickens Tiles (at Gracylane) are beautiful and come in such a range of colors and designs. For more collectibles, visit Hobby Lobby, Hallmark, Jo-Ann’s, Yankee Candle and more!
FOR THE MOTHER WHO HAS EVERYTHING: Consider a unique gift. I just love this LED Light from Gio. They have a wide range of uncommon gift ideas.
LOVE LANGUAGE 5: PHYSICAL TOUCH
If your mother’s love language is touch, she will most likely say things like, “Give me a hug.” If this is your mother, get her the gift of massage. Fizek Fitness and Home Spa both offer massages ranging from relaxing to therapeutic massages. When you give mom her gift, make sure to give her a big hug (and don’t let go until she does!)
If you are still unsure of which gift would be perfect for your mother, select one item from each of the categories above. You will be sure to win the best child of the year award, and all the other moms will be envious of your mom.
UNIVERSAL LOVE LANGUAGE: MONEY
Although money is not an official love language, I don’t know any moms that don’t like it. Pair an Eastwood Mall Gift Card with a corny note about how your mom is the best mom in the universe so you got her a gift card to the Best Shopping Mall in Ohio.
Before you go, visit EASTWOOD MALL for more information and for hours of operation.
