SMALLFOOT MOVIE REVIEW: WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW

Imagine knowing there are creatures out there that are different than us. They may walk like us, and have hands and feet like us, but they are not humans. We have all heard the tales of Bigfoot, but the proof is just so hard to find. What do you think would happen if you found a living Yeti? Do you ever wonder if the Yetis think about us? Smallfoot Movie Review: What Parents Need to Know does not attempt to answer all your Bigfoot questions, but it will shed some light on the suitability of the movie for the littlest feet in your life.

Smallfoot Movie: Age recommendations and review

Smallfoot, the legend of Bigfoot is told from Bigfoot’s point of view. The voice cast includes Tatum Channing, James Corden, Zendaya, LeBron James, and Danny DeVito. Warner Animation Group brings us a tale of a creature living high above the clouds on a mountaintop hidden away from all humans. The Yeti only know the legends about Smallfoot, but they don’t actually ever leave their mountaintop range to discover the truth.

Migo a friendly yeti who stumbles upon a human, and as quickly as he comes across this “smallfoot,” he loses him. Migo is determined to take a smallfoot back to his village and goes on a search to find him. Meanwhile Percy (a famous human nature explorer) has seen his ratings tank. He will stop at nothing to ensure that he once again rises in the ranks including faking a Yeti appearance.

When the worlds of Smallfoot and Yetis collide, we uncover the real reason why our worlds are separate. This charming film is sure to captivate you, plus the music is pretty catchy too!

Smallfoot Movie Review: Yetis versus Humans

SMALLFOOT MOVIE REVIEW: WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW

There are positive elements to this story: Reconciliation, reaching across the divide to make friends with someone different than you, and talking about why you hold fast to your beliefs.

The biggest takeaway in this movie is to question what you are taught and question the traditions passed down to you. There are some scenes where the humans are fighting and trying to catch the Yeti. There are also a few scenes where the Yeti are chasing a human. Lies are told. A news reporter is trying to deceive the public. There are words said, such as “crap, stupid.” There is a short video clip shown of a twerking hog.

(Spoiler Alert) This movie questions the traditions and writings being passed down from one generation to another. The “sacred” writings are found to be not true. BUT the purpose in this lie was to keep the Yeti safe. The younger generation questions the older generation, and their traditions and teachings. While many people “fear” this type of movie that challenges you to question your beliefs, I say embrace the questions and teach your children to question. This gives them a deeper understanding of their faith.

ITEMS THAT MAY FRIGHTEN YOUNG CHILDREN

There are several scenes where Yeti are being chased with tranquilizer guns by humans. There are scenes of fighting between Yeti and Humans. A plane crashes.

MY RECOMMENDATION

My family liked this movie, but it did receive a PG rating for action, rude humor, and thematic elements. Because of the scare factor for some children, I recommend this movie for ages 6 and up. While I don’t expect Smallfoot to be a classic, it is a fun spin on the classic story of the Yeti, and man’s search for this elusive creature.
