Where to Find the Best Gluten Free Snacks

Years ago finding gluten-free snacks was difficult. Most business did not cater to the celiac or gluten-intolerant person, but as more and more people have found that they cannot eat gluten for one reason or another, our options have expanded. However, many of the choices out there are pretty (can I just be honest) untasty. But I have found a source to try new gluten-free offerings without breaking the bank. Below I will share with you where to find the best gluten free snacks.

Best Gluten Free Cookies

Places to find Gluten-Free Snacks and Cookies

I am a shopper. I go to grocery stores, thrift stores, high-end department stores, farmer’s markets, specialty food stores, retail stores, and discount stores. And at each and every one of them I look for gluten-free offerings. At most places the pickings are slim. So when I find somewhere that consistently offers gluten-free foods, snacks, and cookies, I make sure to go back.

Some of the best places to find a great selection of gluten-free products are the grocery store, farmer’s markets, and specialty stores. Of course, establishments such as Whole Foods have plenty to offer, but their prices are high. In fact, the prices on gluten-free snacks and desserts are astronomical almost everywhere.

Best Gluten-Free Cookies

If I had a dollar for every time someone said, “Have you gone to Aldi’s to get gluten-free,” I would have a boatload of dollars. While I do shop at Aldi’s for many products such as Casa Mamitas Salsa which is gluten-free, and their butter, when I buy something, I want it to taste good, be reasonably priced, and taste good. Yes, taste is of utmost importance to me. I don’t want gluten-free pizza. For me to eat it, it must be great tasting gluten-free pizza. I don’t want a gluten-free chocolate chip cookie. I want a fantastic gluten-free chocolate chip cookie.

If I am being truly honest, I am a taste snob. It is irrelevant what a food looks like. If it isn’t delicious, please don’t serve it to me. I have been known to look at a chef at a restaurant and say, “Have you tasted this?” Most of the time (if I am asking this question) it is something that is horrendous, and I am usually told, “NO.” I do not serve food in my household that I wouldn’t eat myself. So I do expect the chef to know what something taste like before they pawn it off on me. The same goes for friends that suggest something because it is gluten-free. Don’t just tell me that a store has gluten-free items, if you have never tasted it. Quite frankly, many gluten-free products taste like cardboard.

So, I promise you that I would not suggest something to you that I haven’t personally tried myself. All of the items that I will suggest to you have been tested by my daughter and me. Over the course of the next year, I will bring you my favorite gluten-free products. While I occasionally buy gluten-free items at Aldi’s, they do not consistently have the best tasting products. I absolutely loved their angel food and white cake mixes, but I haven’t been able to find them since the summer. I am not a fan of their chocolate or yellow cake mix.

Where to find delicious gluten-free offerings

There is a local Italian grocery store near me that offers some gluten-free items, and I have liked many of them, but again, $$$$$. I have promised to tell you my favorite place to get cookies and snacks without breaking the bank, and while I have told you some places I go, and some I don’t particularly like, I still haven’t told you my favorite place. DRUMROLL……

My Favorite Place to Buy Gluten-Free Snacks

My very favorite place to find new and exciting gluten-free snacks, cookies, baking mixes, and more is T.J. Maxx. This store consistently carries new items and occasionally I can find an old favorite. And I absolutely love their discounted prices. I can try two or three new boxes from T.J. Maxx or spend the same money on one box from the grocery store. I also love the fact that they offer such great quality foods. Most of the products that I find there are speciality store offerings and not items you would find in your typical store.

Years ago, I found my favorite baking mixes there – a company called Moon Rabbit had a small number of items for sale at TJMaxx. Even though I cannot buy the mix at T.J. Maxx any longer, I still purchase it online. Ironically, I had contacted the company, and the man had grown up in a town very near to me. He worked as a pastry chef for a high-end resort and developed these mixes. In the last few years, the company has been sold, but I continue to buy the mixes on AMAZON. Just yesterday, my sister (gluten-eating) asked me to bring my gluten-free cake for Christmas. My husband has said that Moon Rabbit’s Chocolate Cake is the best chocolate cake he has ever had.
