Introduction to The Action Bible Book Review

Imagine flipping through The Action Bible: Faith in Action Edition, a canvas where the dynamic worlds of comics and the ancient tales of the Bible converge. With the aim of crafting biblical narratives into visually captivating comics, this work merges the artistry of Sergio Cariello with the storytelling prowess of Doug Mauss. Together, they embark on a bold endeavor: adapting the profound and multifaceted texts of the Bible for a younger audience, promising a journey through biblical text adaptation like no other. As we delve into this review, let’s remain open to the rich tapestry of Bible genres, interpretations, and the transformative potential of religious comics for the younger (and older) generations.

First, I already owned The Action Bible, and I am reading it with my adult autistic son. While many versions of the Bible have failed, this is the first one that he will actively engage with. Second, when I was asked to explore this new edition, I knew that any enhancements would help in our quest to better understand God’s Word and I was excited to take a look at it.

I was given a free copy of this product for review. Many thanks to David C Cook for providing this product. Opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation.

About The Action Bible

The Action Bible: Faith in Action Edition is a well-made and sturdy Bible by David C Cook. First, David C. Cook is a publisher of children’s books and resources that bring glory to God and point people to Christ.

This comic book-style picture Bible is not a full Bible. However, is designed to have you understand and engage in God’s Word. The stories are in Chronological Order (as the events happened and not as they are listed in the traditional Bible). But this helps your child get a full picture of God’s redemptive story.

Keep in mind, these are not actual word-for-word Bible stories. However, they are a retelling of stories from the NIV Bible with a blend of powerful imagery.

The Faith in Action Badges include Courage, Faith, Hope, Love, Service, Trust and Wisdom. Furthermore, the table of contents allows you to focus on one of those attributes instead of reading from start to finish.

Additionally, the QR Codes allow you to access digital content such as videos, games, devotionals, maps and more to give your children a fun way to enhance the Bible story they have just read. In fact, you will love how the interactive features keep kids and teens fascinated.

Great Book for Struggling Readers

My son is an adult with autism. He struggles to read, and he is just not interested in most Bibles. Overall, the Bible stories within The Faith in Action Edition captivate younger readers with the graphic novel style. Furthermore, older children and readers of all ages will enjoy the graphics by an accomplished artist.

I really love that the stories of the Bible including the Life of Jesus are done in a way that engages my son. I believe the comic book format keeps him interested. Furthermore, the graphic art helps him remember the stories that I have read to him.

Additionally, the Faith in Action Edition is designed for ages 9-11 years old with a reading level aimed at grades 3-7. Younger kids will love having you read this book aloud while they pay great attention to the illustrations.

Artistic Comic Book Style Interpretation

Diving into The Action Bible: Faith in Action Edition, you’d expect a fusion of fervent faith and vibrant visuals, especially with Sergio Cariello’s artistry. This art is reminiscent of his accolades from DC Comics and Marvel Comics.

Cariello is a Brazilian comic book artist. He got his start at a young age with a weekly comic strip in his local newspaper. This updated edition has beautiful illustrations that captivate and inspire kids to continue reading. This Bible has children immersed in God’s Word in a great way with its clear storytelling of both the Old Testament and the New Testament.
