Discount on School Supplies

What do homeschool moms and school teachers have in common? While there are a lot of right answers, if you said, “They both spend a lot of their own money on school supplies,” you would be correct. Teachers and homeschool moms are always on the lookout for teacher discounts on those school supplies. This year, Meijer’s has extended their Teacher Discount for the entire 2020/2021 School Year, and teachers and homeschoolers couldn’t be happier.

Our First Shopping Trip to Meijer

My family has never been to a Meijer store before, so we decided to make it adventure. I am firmly convinced that you can find joy in every encounter and every circumstance. As a homeschooling mom (this is year 27), life can get mundane. As a mom of a child on the autism spectrum, life can be crazy. But each and every trip and encounter can be sprinkled with bits of joy. 

So, does Meijer live up to the hype? What we found is a very-very-very clean store. Well-stocked, organized, and the friendliest crew we have encountered in a one-stop shopping center. Meijer is privately owned and family-operated since 1934, and it shows in how they treat their customers. 

But, I remember I went into the store specifically for the Meijer Teacher Discount. 

What is the Meijer Teacher School Supplies Discount?

First, Meijer is a retailer in the Midwest that offers something for everyone. Clothing, toys, produce, groceries, electronics, pharmacy, garden center, and even school supplies – Meijer has it all.

I went on my Meijer shopping experience with my husband and my two sons. In fact, I literally couldn’t get my husband to stop talking about their deli. I have to admit that I was being very focused and failed to see his joy expressed in the deli section!

The entire store was clean, well-lit, and stocked to the brim with everything you would want (except the top thing on my list – we’ll get to that later).

Meijer offers teachers and homeschool moms a 15% discount on school supplies such as spiral notebooks, Crayola products, Elmer’s Glue, Sharpies, Post-It Notes, planners, journals, scissors, and more. (Joy for this homeschool mom).

However, Meijer has taken things one step further. In addition to extending the 15% discount to the entire year, making Meijer the first major retailer to extend their discount, they have also added Mask’s, gloves and hand sanitizer to their list of discounted products.

How Do I Get My Meijer Teacher Discount?

Simply go to the customer service located in the front of the Meijer store and present your current school ID. (As a homeschooling mom, I used my letter from the county superintendent showing that my children were excused from attendance for the 2020/2021 school year.)

After requesting the Teacher’s Discount, the friendly Meijer customer service specialist will give you a coupon good for one trip for a 15% discount on school supplies. Each time you come back to the store to purchase additional school supplies, simply stop at the service desk and request an additional coupon.

What I Purchased with My Meijer Teacher Discount:

As you can see, I joyfully spent about $100 and came home with bags filled with goodies. Some were for my homeschool, and some were for my granddaughters who are also being homeschooled.

These school supplies don’t just represent homeschooling to me. They represent joy! These supplies, purchased at a discount, will be used for gaining wisdom and having fun with my children and grandchildren. However, these supplies will also create memories. Memories of creating artwork, learning about biology, cutting little shreds of paper that look like confetti, and painting more artwork for my walls and refrigerators. 

Meijer has enabled me to purchase more supplies for less money and make lasting joyful memories.
