Sometimes when you have been homeschooling for a long time, you forget to look at new curriculum. That is definitely the case in my house, and especially when it comes to art. While we haven’t looked at homeschool art curriculum, when I had the opportunity to check out Beyond the Stick Figure Art School, I jumped at the chance. Jack-Jack (my 15-year-old autistic son) needed something simple, organized, and would build on what he can already to. In addition to the Beyond the Stick Complete Drawing Course, I was given access to 3 Bonus Courses.
Can BEYOND THE STICK FIGURE ART SCHOOL be a Complete Homeschool Art Curriculum?
Absolutely! Beyond the Stick Figure Art School’s byline is “If you can draw a stick figure, you can learn to draw and paint!”
For my first three children, I actually hired an art teacher to come into my house and give them drawing lessons. My older children are wildly creative and these art lessons have served them well, but that is not an ideal situation for most people. Beyond the Stick Figure Complete Drawing Course PLUS 3 Bonus Courses.is a drawing program, but it is so much more.
What do you get for the Complete Course?
180 Lessons
Lifetime Access to the Courses – This ensures that you can work at the course at the pace that works for your family.
A 30-day money back guarantee
Short, easy to follow Video Lessons
The course is geared to ages 5-adult. The instructor talks to everyone. This is not just a course for children. Young and old alike will enjoy her accent and her teaching style.
Instruction that begins at the beginning and builds on what you already have learned. (This is a big one for me. I have seen too many courses that assume you have a knowledge of art and don’t give you the basics. Or worse yet, give you the basics as if you were a child).
Everyone in the family can use this course. You do not have to pay per student. Even grandma and grandpa can participate. While you can have your child watch the video on their own and complete the lesson, wouldn’t it be great to have grandma or grandpa sit and draw or paint with your children?
The Courses
Complete Drawing Course is comprised of 45 lessons
Bonus #1: Pen and Ink has 15 lessons & Watercolor has 52 lessons
Bonus #2 Acrylic has 24 lessons
Bonus #3 3D design has 30 lessons
What We Love About Beyond the Stick Figure Art School
The video lessons are great, short and easy to follow. Jack-Jack is having no trouble with completing a lesson, and actually looks forward to doing art.
While Jack-Jack doesn’t like to hold a pencil or pen, he loves art and painting. He has never been a fan of drawing, but that is because his expectations are different from what he can accomplish. He is enjoying the time drawing class because he can accomplish these lessons.
Additionally, this course is teaching him a lot about holding a writing utensil and control in a fun way. Plus he wants to improve his drawing and this is a great way to learn!
HOW OUR FAMILY IS USING BEYOND THE STICK FIGURE ART SCHOOL
I am completing the drawing lessons with Jack-Jack. My oldest son, Marcus, is a junior and has already completed a drawing class. However, once we move into painting and sculpting, Marcus will be doing the lessons with us. This is the beauty of homeschooling! Each person is able to work at their level.
My favorite lesson was the one where I discovered a Disney character in my art work. Can you find the character hiding in my abstract drawing below?
Additional Thoughts on This Homeschool Art Curriculum
This course is designed by Sally who was originally born and raised in England, hence the adorable accent. She is married and has 8 children whom she homeschools. She has a degree in Art and is using her expertise with homeschooling coupled with her love and passion for art to help you inspire and teach your own children the love of art and learning.
You can use this course as a daily program for one year, or you can use it 2-3 days a week and use it over the course of 2-3 years. (Another great benefit of homeschooling is you set the pace for your children).
While we haven’t worked beyond the drawing aspect of this course, I did watch videos in each course. I love the style in Pen and Ink and know that Jack-Jack will too. However, the courses I am most looking forward to are Watercolors and Acrylics. I guess you could say learning this is on my bucket list.
My Recommendation: Homeschool Art Curriculum – Beyond the Stick Figure Art School
This course is amazing. It truly is a complete homeschool art curriculum. Use it with all of your children. Finish and then go back and use it again. As your children age, they can repeat their favorite lessons and see how they have improved.
For a limited time, Sally is giving you the three bonus courses for free with the purchase of the Drawing Course. This is an amazing value. Additionally, the ability to make payments is such a fantastic feature.
We have really enjoyed the scope of the homeschool art lessons, and this curriculum has proven to be a favorite of ours. In fact, I liked it so much that I signed up to be an affiliate for this course. This means that if you purchase it through my link, I receive a percentage of the sales.
Finally, Beyond the Stick Figure Art School delivers fun and learning in your home, and it will equip your children with a great foundation in art.
