Use these Disney’s Tangled\/Rapunzel Lesson Plans to inspire, teach, engage and play with your child. These plans utilize both Disney’s Tangled movie and the original Brother Grimm story of Rapunzel. Before beginning, make sure to access the Book List for Weeks 1-12<\/a>. This will have the reading books used for Tangled weeks 7-8. Also make sure to see the Supply List for Weeks 1-12<\/a> to make sure you have the supplies for this unit on-hand.<\/span><\/p>\n To Read Introductory Notes, Click Here!<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n WATCH DISNEY\u2019S Tangled (PG) <\/strong>Questions to ask before watching the movie: What does Rapunzel want to do? Why do the King and Queen send lanterns up? Watch carefully when Rapunzel leaves the tower \u2013 how she folds her hair \u2013 length of hair versus distance to the bottom of the tower.<\/span><\/p>\n OTHER MOVIES:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n RAPUNZEL (PG) <\/strong>This live-action version stars Jeff Bridges and Shelley Duvall. It is part of a series called Faerie Tale Theater.<\/span><\/p>\n ****INTO THE WOODS \u00a0(PG-13) I take movie ratings very seriously. There are themes in this movie that are not suitable for children<\/span>.\u00a0<\/strong>Into the Woods is a compilation of several different stories. It includes Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood. You may want to preview this movie before allowing your children to watch it. I have put two movie reviews here for you to decide if this movie is suitable for your child. Talk about dreams \u2013 sleeping dreams versus Rapunzel\u2019s dream (hopes and desires we have). This week we will be studying the life of\u00a0Daniel. Daniel was a man chosen by God. God gave him knowledge and understanding. And Daniel could interpret dreams and visions.<\/span><\/p>\n In the Snow White Unit, we studied Joseph \u2013 talk about Joseph’s dreams. What is the difference between the dreams we have when we are sleeping and dreams as in the hopes and desires we have?<\/span><\/p>\n ALL LEVELS<\/span>:<\/u> <\/span><\/p>\n Work on Memorizing Bible Verse. Daniel 1:17\u00a0As for these four youths,\u00a0God gave them learning and\u00a0skill in all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had\u00a0understanding in all visions and dreams.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The ability to understand the spiritual meaning of dreams is a gift from God.<\/span><\/p>\n Describe Rapunzel’s dream from the movie Tangled? (Answers include leave the tower, see the lanterns, find her identity)<\/span><\/p>\n BEGINNER:<\/u> <\/span><\/p>\n Read Definition of Determination and discuss with your\u00a0child.<\/span><\/p>\n What things did Rapunzel do that show she is a determined individual?<\/span><\/p>\n Read the book The Little Engine that Could<\/a> by Watty Piper. Talk about how the little engine was determined to make it up the hill. Refer to the book this week when your child says, \u201cI can\u2019t.\u201d Each day reread or read another story from the Appendix.<\/span><\/p>\n INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED: <\/u><\/span><\/p>\n Define Determination. Practice Determination. Write Determined statements in your Journal. Each Day list\u00a0<\/span>one<\/span>\u00a0goal and steps needed to accomplish that goal.<\/span><\/p>\n CREATE-A-PLAN TO TEACH DETERMINATION: Examples of practicing determination: Have your child identify something that they would like to do, but doesn\u2019t come easy for them. Set short and <\/span>long-term goals. Help them develop a plan to accomplish those goals. See Plan WORKSHEET (Appendix)<\/span><\/p>\n Rapunzel was written by the Brothers Grimm. Disney\u2019s Tangled version of the story is believed to be set along the Baltic coastline between Germany and Poland. The mobile in Rapunzel\u2019s crib in the Tangled movie has the following figures: chameleon (Pascal), a rubber duck (Snuggly Duckling), Cupid (a character from the Snuggly Duckling), horse (Maximus), and bluebird (the bird that flies around after Rapunzel leaves the tower).<\/span><\/p>\n BEGINNER:<\/u> Read the Brothers Grimm version of Rapunzel or a friendly version of Rapunzel from Appendix A. I recommend the version by Sarah Gibb<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED<\/u>: Read the Brothers Grimm version of Rapunzel.<\/span><\/p>\n ALL LEVELS:\u00a0<\/span>Questions on Day 1: How long does it take for hair to grow? \u00bd\u201d per month<\/span><\/p>\n How long is Rapunzel\u2019s hair? 70 feet<\/span><\/p>\n How long would it take to grow 70 feet? 140 years<\/span><\/p>\n How old is Rapunzel? 18 years old<\/span><\/p>\n Could her hair be as long as it is?<\/span><\/p>\n This week we will study Genetics and DNA. We have a unique DNA print that helps identify who we are. In Tangled, Rapunzel \u201cknows\u201d that the lanterns have something to do with her, but she doesn\u2019t know what. She is on a quest to find out what they mean and during her quest, she finds her identity. After studying DNA, you can do Blood Typing, some DNA experiments, and study the genetics of eye color.<\/span><\/p>\n After watching the movie, ask the following questions: Who was Rapunzel’s real mother? Who does Rapunzel look like? Does she look like Mother Goethel? What color are her hair and eyes? What color eyes does Mother Goethel have? Discuss other physical traits of Rapunzel and her real mother.<\/span><\/p>\n BEGINNER<\/span>:\u00a0Gregor Mendel: The Friar Who Grew Peas<\/span><\/p>\n INTERMEDIATE:\u00a0<\/span>A Book of True Genetics p. Both eye color and blood type are genetic traits handed down from parents to the offspring. In Tangled Rapunzel and her mother \u201clook similar\u201d, and she doesn\u2019t look like Mother Goethel. While watching the movie point this out to your children. Look at baby pictures of your children and siblings, you and your children\u2019s father. It is great to get outside and act like a kid. Even adults should do this sometime.<\/span><\/p>\n ALL LEVELS:<\/span> Discuss the Health Benefits of the Sun: Rapunzel was locked away in a tower. What would happen without adequate sunshine? I have listed some websites to explore the benefits of the sun.
