GAMES FOR KIDS USING DISNEY/PIXAR MOVIES

One day I walked into the room and found Jack-Jack (my son with autism) lining up his Disney/Pixar movies. I didn’t immediately recognize that he was lining them up in order from his most favorite to his least favorite movie at that time. This is an activity even adults like to do. Have you ever participated in an online movie poll? Which is your favorite movie Up or Frozen? Over and over these types of questions pop up on Facebook, and adults answer them. Children like to partake too. This activity is based on those type of polls but is geared for young children. However, it can be fun for kids of all ages. Read below how to play Games for Kids Using Disney/Pixar Movies.

HOW TO PLAY WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DISNEY/PIXAR MOVIE:

Get all your Pixar movies out, and allow your child to line them up. If you don’t have all of them, download of all the title covers, and print them out. See the Download link below.

DOWNLOAD THE MOVIE CARDS HERE!

(Use of these images is for personal home use only. Do not sell, reproduce or distribute). Make sure to print them in landscape mode. There are 3 pages of movie cover images. To have them last longer, print them on cardstock.

Have your child line them up and take a photo. Next time when you do this activity again, do not let them see their original rankings. See if their preferences have changed. I will add new movies as they are released on DVD/Blu-Ray.

TIPS for PLAYING GAMES FOR KIDS USING DISNEY/PIXAR MOVIES:

  • For younger children, give them 2 movies at a time. Children are overwhelmed by too many choices. Heck, so am I. Give them two movies. Ask, “Which is your favorite?” Keep working with 2 movies at a time.
  • For older kids, you can have them create a list in their creative writing journal with the date. It is fun to see how our taste changes over time. When new movies come out sometimes the new movie is your child’s favorite, and then over time, an older one moves back into that number one position. Jack-Jack had Toy Story in number one for years, and then The Incredibles moved up to number one. Now he has gone back to Toy Story as his top movie.
  • Download the movie covers, print them on cardstock, and laminate them. This will save your DVD cases from getting manhandled by little hands.
  • Use the cards for other activities. Print two copies of each and do a “Concentration-type” memory game. Put all the cards face down and take turns turning over two cards at a time to try to find a match. If you find a match, you get to keep the cards. If they do not find a match, turn the cards back over and the next person takes a turn. Continue until all matches are found.

What Do You Remember Game:

Have you ever seen the show Psych? Shawn’s father used to play this type of game with him when he was a kid. Give your child one card and have them study it for 2 minutes. Then ask questions such as: What color is the background? What characters were shown on the cover? Example from Ratatouille: How many knives are in the picture?

Tell Me The Movie:

Stack up the cards and take turns selecting a card. On the players turn, they are to tell the story – beginning, Middle, and End. Or have your child tell an alternate ending to the story. What if Nemo isn’t found? What happens to him?

Charades:

For 2 or more players. Can play in groups. Put cards in a pile face down. Player one selects a card and acts out something from the movie. The other player/players try to guess the movie title.

LINE UP THE MOVIES BY RELEASE DATE:

This is a new activity that Jack-Jack started on his own! Without looking online line up the movies by release date. Click here to check the movies.
