Another Sequel From Disney
Have you seen any of the movies in the Tron trilogy?
The latest film in the series has just been released in theaters and this time, Disney has broken the pattern. Tron: Ares is rated PG-13, while the previous two movies were both PG. In this Tron: Ares Christian Movie Review and Parent Guide, I’ll share everything you need to know before deciding whether it’s the right fit for your family.

Synopsis: TRON Ares Christian Movie Review
Studio Synopsis:
“TRON: Ares” follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into
the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.
The feature film is directed by Joachim Rønning and stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan
Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, with Gillian Anderson, and Jeff
Bridges. Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Jared Leto, Emma Ludbrook and Steven
Lisberger are the producers, with Russell Allen serving as executive producer.
My Synopsis:
The last movie in the Tron series, Tron: Legacy, was released back in 2010. It was set in that same year and followed Sam Flynn, the son of Kevin Flynn, as he was pulled into the digital world his father created. This movie jumps to 2025.
Eve Kim is now the CEO of ENCOM and is searching for the “permanence code” believed to be left behind by Kevin Flynn. Julian, Dillinger Systems CEO, grandson of Ed Dillinger, is trying desperately to get his hands on this code. He has told the shareholders that Dillinger Systems can create the “perfect soldier” but what he fails to reveal is that whatever they bring to earth from “the grid” only lasts 29 minutes.
While Eve plans to use the permanence code for good, Julian plans to control and dominate and will stop at nothing to get it.

What Parents Need to Know – Tron Ares Christian Movie Review
Language:
God’s name is taken in vain multiple times. It is also paired with “d-mn it.” Two uses of h-ll, and one s-it.
Violence:
This film is full of action and violence. Unlike the other Tron films, it is rated PG-13 specifically for violence and action. There are several high speed chases throughout the movie.
In one scene, a person is stabbed and lies on the ground dying. (To find out which character, see spoiler section below). Additionally, there are other people that are killed. While their deaths are not shown on screen, obviously, there are deaths and destruction. There are plenty of buildings destroyed and cars are crushed.
Furthermore, the digital characters fight each other. While there is no blood, they shatter into tiny pieces which is almost more disconcerting as all that is left is a pile of black pieces. When their 29 minutes are up, these digital characters crumble into a pile. There is destruction in the digital world with explosions and destruction.
Finally, there is on-screen fighting between digital assets and humans. One man is thrown across the room. A woman is shown with battle wounds.
Spiritual Content:
Ares, the name, comes from Greek mythology. He is the god of war. There is another digital character named Athena, who is the Greek goddess known for being the city protectress, goddess of war, handicraft, and practical reason.
However, the entire theme of the movie is that man has the ability to create something out of nothing. While the machines Julian Dillinger use “print” matter, that matter then takes on its own life force and becomes more than just a digital asset. Julian also appears as a “talking head” to the digital characters and one character bows to him.
Teachable Moments in Tron Ares
One character says, “being human is hard,” and I would respond that being human is hard when we leave the covenant that God has with humans. Away from the moral code, we are just “empty shells” and not able to life a full and productive life.
This film clearly shows the good versus evil in humans and in digital form.
My Viewing Recommendation: Tron Ares Christian Movie Review
While I openly admit that I am not a fan of the Tron movies, I do find some value and enjoyment in watching Tron and Tron Legacy. However, I did not really enjoy this film. Overall, I felt the movie hard to follow in the beginning. They tried very hard to put together background information to bring the viewer up-to-speed, but it wasn’t engaging and was rather lackluster.
This film is rated PG-13 and while there are more intense PG-13 movies out there, I still stand by my viewing recommendation of ages 12-13 for this film. Due to the length of this film, 1 hour and 59 minutes, small children will get bored. We did have a 3-4 year old in our row, and the child was walking and talking during most of the movie.
