Angel Studios Latest Film Starring Kevin James

When I first saw the trailer for Solo Mio, I knew I wanted to see this film. While Kevin James isn’t my favorite actor, I liked the initial clip. However, I also wondered if this film would be suitable for all audiences. In my Solo Mio Christian Movie Review and Parent Guide, I give you the information you need before seeing this film with the family and kids. Furthermore, I explore the PG rating.

Christian Review – What Parents Want to Know

Language:

Minor amount of foul language includes a-s.

Violence:

Overall, the violence in this film is minor compared to most films. However, there is one hard punch to the nose which knocks a man down. Additionally, there are verbal altercations between married couples. One couple fights a lot with yelling that can be overheard in other hotel rooms.

Spiritual Content:

A church with a priest is the setting for a marriage. Additionally, a family prays before dinner. Finally, a man says that he is praying for another person.

Other Content:

Under the other content, is where most parents will have the most difficulty with this film when watching with children.

There was one scene where I looked at my son and said, I cannot believe that this would be in a PG film. And then the scene was not what I initially thought.

However, alcohol is consumed frequently, to excess, and several times people are staggering, slurring words, and acting goofy due to being extremely intoxicated. Furthermore, there are scenes in a bar, and a woman makes suggestive comments to a man. She is also shown smoking cigarettes.

The main character undresses down to his boxer shorts, but when they show him, he has a tuxedo jacket on which covers most everything. It almost looks like he is wearing shorts.

A woman and man place a bet on a horse race between the two of them.

Deception:

The main character fails to disclose a vital piece of information. When it is found out, the other person feels betrayed.

Positive Content:

There are several teachable moments in the film. A person is encouraged to take chances and try new things. Later, he is shown both dancing and singing – two things he would not do previously.

Kevin Coates and Alyson Hannigan in Solo Mio

Solo Mio Christian Movie Review – My Viewing Recommendations

Overall, this is a cute film. I was pleasantly surprised at the twists and turns this film took making it unpredictable. I hate when I know what is going to happen next, and this movie delivered surprises. Additionally, Kevin James was entirely believable in his role and the supporting cast was excellent. While the film was shot in Italy, I did not feel that is it was just one big travel advertisement like My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3.

I recommend this film for ages 13 and up, just because I think younger children will not be interested in the content of the film, and due to the excessive alcohol use.
