Years ago our only option for teaching music to your children were expensive music lessons, but for younger children there were only videos and CD players. I was eager to review Musik at Home because this program gives parents a viable option for teaching music to children under 7, and I do feel the choices for homeschool music programs are limited. I was gifted a 3 month Musik at Home membership to this exciting online program.

REVIEW: What is Musik at Home and How Can You Use It In Your Homeschool?

Musik at Home is an educational music program featuring over 400 activities for children 7 and under. It was developed by Kathryn Brunner, an early childhood music educator. She is a certified Musikgarten instructor and has developed this online subscription service that brings you and your children a complete music program from the comfort of your own home.

Brunner is happy, upbeat and has a beautiful voice. (My children have always told me to stop singing to them as soon as they could talk). LOL

This curriculum is ready to use with almost no preparation. Simply log in and begin. While there is no lesson planning needed, you will want to be involved as a parent.

Where to Start with Musik at Home?

Begin with the introduction videos. This gives you an idea of what to expect, and also what instruments you will need.

Feel free to browse the entire collection or start by age range. We watched a sampling of the collection throughout our review period. You will find that your child will have favorite videos that they want to watch over and over.

Instruments needed:

A pair of rhythm sticks for each child. (We used bamboo mixing spoons)

Some type of shaker instrument – rice of beans in a sealed container will work if you don’t have official musical shakers.

A scarf or a light weight scarf from your closet.

How our family used Musik at Home?

While I watched a couple of episodes with Jack-Jack, my 16 year old autistic son, the ideal age range is much younger.

Many weeks my granddaughters ask me to put on music and dance with them. We laugh and dance around the family room. Since my granddaughters are in the perfect age range for Musik at Home, I knew I wanted to get their input in the program. We have watched finger plays, and used scarves and shakers. They enjoyed keeping rhythm and loved The Farmer in the Dell as the music went faster and faster.

Can You Use Music at Home as a Homeschool Music Program?

Absolutely. Musik at Home can be a complete music education for younger children. While you can put together your own educational music program for your babies, toddlers, and young children, it is such a wonderful convenience to have access to Musik at Home. Additionally, having an expert guide you, as the parent, is invaluable. Furthermore, if you are looking at a preschool, kindergarten, or elementary music program, look no further.

Final Thoughts on Musik at Home for Homeschool:

While this program is definitely for the younger children, even my 16-year-old autistic son enjoyed the videos we watched. They are upbeat, well-made, and fun for adults and children.

This program is a wonderful resource for all parents, but I think especially for first-time parents or weary parents of older and younger children who don’t have the time or energy to even remember what to do with the younger kids as you homeschool your older ones.

If you are looking for an experiences to give for Christmas or birthdays, this makes an excellent gift. Additionally, it is the perfect present for grandchildren. It is easy to gift a Musik at Home subscription.

These classes are designed to help you connect with your children. This is not a program that you sit your child in front of and walk away, but it is meant to be used with mother/father and child together. Furthermore, it can be used in your homeschool setting with older siblings while they help watch the younger ones.

While I was reviewing this program, I concluded I could definitely recommend Musik at Home for homeschooling. If you are unsure of this program, they do have a free 7 day trial period.
