Film Seven in the Never-Ending, Unbelievable Series

Intense, dramatic, and loud! This film’s setting is on yet another remote island. It includes more stupid people who think that they are somehow different than all the other stupid people who tried to make money off the dinosaurs. This pretty much sums up the new Jurassic World Rebirth. In this Jurassic World Rebirth Christian Movie Review & Parent Guide, I give you the information you need before viewing this movie with your children.

“Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” – Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum). We could rewrite this: “Your film makers were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” And that sums up this film.

Dinosaur in Jurassic World Rebirth

Jurassic World Rebirth Christian Movie Review

A new era is born. This summer, three years after the Jurassic World trilogy concluded with each film surpassing $1 billion at the global box office, the enduring Jurassic series evolves in an ingenious new direction with Jurassic World Rebirth.

Anchored by iconic action superstar Scarlett Johansson, Emmy and SAG nominee Jonathan Bailey and two-time Oscar® winner Mahershala Ali, this action-packed new chapter sees an extraction team race to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, inhabited by the worst of the worst that were left behind.

Also starring acclaimed international stars Rupert Friend and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, the film is directed by dynamic visualist Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) from a script by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp.

Studio Synopsis:

Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

Academy Award® nominee Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure the genetic material. When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on a forbidden island that had once housed an undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park. There, in a terrain populated by dinosaurs of vastly different species, they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.

Ali is Duncan Kincaid, Zora’s most trusted team member; Critics Choice and Olivier Award winner Jonathan Bailey (Wicked, Bridgerton) plays paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis; Emmy nominee Rupert Friend (Homeland, Obi-Wan Kenobi) appears as Big Pharma representative Martin Krebs and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer, Murder on the Orient Express) plays Reuben Delgado, the father of the shipwrecked civilian family.

Jurassic World Rebirth is directed by BAFTA winner Edwards from a script by Koepp (War of the Worlds), based on characters created by Michael Crichton.

My Synopsis:

Five years after Jurassic World Dominion (yes, it’s only been 3 years), the dinosaurs that happily roamed the earth are dying off. But they are only living in tropical regions close to the equator. A power-hungry pharmaceutical company wants to gather the DNA from three types of living dinosaurs.

Martin Krebs is the executive from the pharmaceutical company, and he frames his mission in terms of “saving millions of lives,” “curing heart disease,” blah, blah, blah. He approaches a covert operations expert, Zora Bennett, played by Scarlett Johansson, and offers her $10 million dollars.

Of course, she views this as a way to retire from the life she leads, and assembles “a crack team of highly skilled mercenaries from the Los Angeles underground..” (Oh wait, that’s from another show). She assembles The B-Team, which is a group of idiots who are just as dumb as her, to go to this remote island that we didn’t know existed in the first SIX Jurassic films. How many research labs on remote islands did these scientists operate, and are they in any way related to Anthony Fauci?

The only problem with this plan is that the three types of dinosaurs are on an island that is off limits to the entire world.

This means that they have to sneak through a banned area, motorboat through infested waters, climb mountains, and walk through jungles to retrieve this coveted DNA. Oh, did I mention that during all this, they did manage to retrieve a group of 4 people (a father, his teenage daughter and her boyfriend, and his young daughter who appears to be 7-9) who were sailing nearby and were attacked by a water dinosaur. And somehow out of all the people in the world, we are supposed to believe that these four people can survive REPEATED attacks by crazy mutant dinosaurs.

Jurassic World Rebirth Christian Movie Review – What Parents Want to Know

Language:

A few instances of taking God’s name in vain – “oh for g-d’s sake,” “g-d no,” and “Thank g-d.” Foul language includes a-s, multiple uses of h-ll and s-it. Someone says they are “lazy as h-ll.” Additional language: son-of-a b-tch.and d-mn. Rude language includes screwed, piss, a person says, “You’re a weirdo,” and another person says, “I’ve gotta pee.”

Violence:

Dangling legs out of a dinosaur’s mouth, a bitten-off arm still attached to a briefcase. These are just two of the gory scenes.

This film opens with a man being locked in a containment unit with a monster-like dinosaur while another person watches in horror.  (Side note: This dinosaur looks vaguely familiar. Did they rent out an old Rancor?) While I read reports that it had some of the essence of the first Jurassic Park film in terms of suspense and frightening scenes, it just seemed bigger and more intense in many ways.

As I watched this film, I kept writing words such as “extreme intense action,” “intense” “extremely intense.” I wanted to convey to my readers just how intense this film really is. Boats exploding, dinosaurs lurking, creatures slithering, and lots and lots and lots of screaming, running, and people being killed. I honestly felt as if this film was so much more intense than a PG-13 film should be. It bordered on an R-rating.

Spiritual Content:

A person mentions that it is a sin to kill a dinosaur.

Furthermore, one scientist says, “We don’t rule the heart, we just think we do.”

Other Content:

If you believe in Young Earth Creationism, be aware that there is plenty of talk of millions and millions of years.

Some drinking does occur, and a group of people are playing what appears to be poker. Additionally, there is a reference to weed.

In one scene with huge dinosaurs that have very long tails, there is implied mating. Their tails are shown to be moving together, and they are rubbing heads.

A teenage girl swims through water with a white t-shirt on. Obviously when getting out of the water, it is clinging to her. Furthermore, there is a reference to seeing a person’s “naked side.”

Additionally, a person is peeing outside. You do not see anything besides the young man standing and you hear urination occurring.

Positive Content:

I am sure that there is some positive content in this film such as a father caring for his children. A man offers to sacrifice himself to save the rest of the people. And maybe even, a father realizes that he misjudged his daughter’s boyfriend. However, this is all overshadowed by a bad film that you should avoid.

Jurassic World Rebirth Christian Review – My Viewing Recommendations

Have you seen King Kong? How about Godzilla films? This latest Jurassic World movie definitely has an element of mutated monster-like creatures that the first 6 films lacked. Was it as bad as Jaws 3? No, but this latest Jurassic film is remarkably bizarre and lacks the on-screen chemistry between characters.

Should you take your children to see this film? ABSOLUTELY NOT! This is the film nightmares are made of. When I got into bed after seeing this movie, I knew there were no dinosaurs under my bed or monsters in my closet. But I still made my husband hold me. Maybe some of my fear is the fact that there really are evil scientists trying to play God. The knowledge that they recreate things in labs they have no business creating is scary.

I sat in a movie theater and saw parents walk in with small children. Those kids had no business seeing this film. If you tell me that your child is not frightened by this film, then I would suggest contacting a therapist because they have been desensitized by watching too much violence on television. In addition, children aren’t supposed to be able to fully distinguish fiction from reality until the ages of 12+. This is why we have a PG-13 rating. If you try to tell me why your child is different, I will assume that you are bent on creating the next evil scientist.

Additional Thoughts:

I truly believe this film and the plot was only designed to sell new dinosaur toys. How can we create new species? Answer: We can have a new, unexplored island off the coast of Barbados (that looks like the jungles of Thailand) named Ile Saint-Hubert. This research facility was creating new species so the Jurassic franchise can sell new merchandise. Obviously, the live-action How to Train Your Dragon is better suited for children than this film.

Finally, Jurassic World Rebirth gave “Land of the Lost” vibes. I do not think that is what they were going for. However, if anyone that worked on the film could reach out to me and let me know, that would be great.
