Welcome!
If you have found this page, that is because you want to find creative ways to homeschool. You most likely are either tired of what is out there or you know what you want but can’t find it.
I was in your shoes once. But first, let me introduce myself.
My name is Patty Moliterno. I am a homeschooling mom of 27 years. I have used many methods of homeschooling my 5 children because each one learns differently.
However, my youngest son needed something different, and when I went exploring, I couldn’t find what I needed for him. I wanted something heavy on movie content, and that pulled elements of the movie together to make learning fun.
So I did what any Mom would do. I created a curriculum for him. Most of the curriculum was in a pile of notes that wouldn’t have made any sense to anyone, but it was written and useful. I continue to use movies to teach him, but I have tried to make some sense out of all the notes.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN HOMESCHOOLING WITH MOVIES:
Year One includes a series of Disney Movies: Animated movies that have great messages that help teach:
Character Development
Creative Writing (at your child’s level)
Science
Geography/History
Health
Recipes and Snacks
Movement
Printables/Art/Crafts
Games
Music
and even optional Bible verses and stories that help relate to the characters and storyline.
Sometimes there is even a little math to go along with the unit.
Each month is broken down into 10 units. Each unit covers 1 movie or segment. Units are designed to cover 2-3 days, but some you may cover in less time and some you may stretch out over a full-week.
WHAT YOU NEED TO ADD:
Math
Phonics/Language Arts
WHAT GRADE LEVEL DOES THIS COVER?
Realistically, this covers Preschool through about sixth grade. Some older children may find it too “babyish,” but my older son said, “I wish we could learn like this all the time.” While I have approximately 2 years of lessons developed, I don’t always have the time to devote to developing new lessons for my own children!
(Secret: As a curriculum developer, working mom, and caregiver to a child with autism, I don’t always have the time to devote to developing new lessons and that means my children have to either 1) have a backup system or 2) redo a unit that I have already done with them.)
CAN THIS CURRICULUM BE ADAPTED TO USE WITH CHILDREN OLDER THAN 6th GRADE?
Absolutely. I use it with my son who is now in 12th grade with modifications to books and activities.
HOW MUCH DOES HOMESCHOOLING WITH MOVIES COST?
Each monthly collection costs $25. This includes the lesson plan and a Facebook Group with support. Having a seasoned homeschool professional as part of the Homeschool Facebook Group is an invaluable resource.
DO I NEED TO BUY ANYTHING ELSE?
You will need to purchase (or find a method to teach) math at your child’s level.
Additionally, you will want to get Phonics/Language Arts. However, language arts can easily be incorporated into this program by using the recommended reading resources.
The only other things you need to buy are craft supplies, paper, pencils, pens, ingredients for the recipes, and items for science.
WHERE CAN I SIGN UP?
Currently, I am setting up a shopping cart for you to purchase, however, if you email me at [email protected] with your Paypal address, I can invoice you for your first month’s purchase.
