Are you ready for Shark Week? Even if you don’t “celebrate shark week,” having some awesome free shark based printables to give to your children can be both fun and educational (just don’t tell the kids). 

I have put together some fun Shark Week printables to use this week, and through the year alongside a shark unit study or even when watching the movies Finding Nemo, Shark Tale, Shark Bait, Jaws, and The Little Mermaid.

Shark Fact #1: Sharks, just like other fish, have scales. However, their scales are dermal denticles. This fancy word means “small skin teeth.” Their skin does feel like sandpaper.

All About Shark Week

First, when is Shark Week?

For 2023, Shark Week is July 23-July 30, 2023.

Second, what is Shark Week?

Shark Week happens each year in July or early August. This week-long Discovery Channel extravaganza highlights shark programming. Shark Week originally premiered on July 17, 1988.

How Can You Celebrate Shark Week?

There are lots of fun ways to celebrate Shark Week. Watching the Discovery Show programming is one way to start, however, there are plenty of other ways to highlight Shark Week with your children. I have detailed some of those ways below.

Shark Fact #2: Sharks don’t have bones. Sharks have skeletal cartilage.

Coloring pages of sharks are always fun. However, you don’t just have to color them with crayons. Instead, use watercolors, markers, or Do-A-Dot Markers.

The Big Letter S can be used with Do-A-Dot markers, but you can also use shark stickers or any other item that starts with the letter S. 

Free Shark Week Printables Letter S for Do-A-Dot

Use it as a collage and cut out pictures from a magazine starting with the letter S. 

Examples: Sharks, Seats, Sandwich, Spoon, Starfish, Star, Sock, Shoe, Shrimp, Sand, Saw, Sea, or Snake

Shark Fact #3: Sandbar shark have about 35,000 teeth over the course of their lifetime.

Shark Match-Up Printables

I have made two different shark match-up printables. One is Easy and one is harder, but I don’t think it is too hard. 

Use the Shark Match-Up by finding the pairs of sharks. However, each one has a lone shark that doesn’t have a match.

Visit the ocean and look for sharks’ teeth. While we have never find sharks teeth at the ocean, I know that they are there.
