In this Freakier Friday Christian Movie Review & Parent Guide, I give you the information you need before viewing this movie with your children.

Freakier Friday Christian Movie Review
Studio Synopsis:
“Freakier Friday,” a sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, will be released in cinemas August 8, 2025. In the film, Curtis and Lohan reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman. The story picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.
My Synopsis:
Anna has a teenage daughter that she has been raising as a single mother with the help of her mother Tess and stepfather, Ryan. Her daughter Harper gets in a fight with the new girl, Lily, (her science lab partner) from London. When Anna and Lily’s father are called to the principals office, they instantly hit it off. Six months later, they are planning their wedding much to the dismay of their daughters. At Anna’s bachelorette party, magic hits again and instead of just two people switching, both Tess and Anna trade places with Harper and Lily.

Freakier Friday Christian Movie Review – What Parents Want to Know
Language:
Several instances of taking God’s name in vain – “oh my g-d” spoken and sung in a song. Foul language includes bada-s, what the h-ll, d-mn, and p-ss. Crude language: Name calling such as dipstick, idiot, stupid. The word “freaking” is used in place of the f-word.
Violence:
There is a foam explosion in a high school lab. Additionally, a food fight occurs at a school bake sale. An “earthquake” causes characters to switch bodies.
Spiritual Content:
This is an area that many Christians will have the hardest time with. Madame Jen offers to give psychic readings. She has a “crystal ball” on her table. Additionally, she reads palms, and at one point, she talks in a demonic creepy voice. She also says things like, “follow my aura,” and there is talk about her being Reiki certified.
Additionally, there is mention of chakra, and Tess and Anna “center” themselves often.
Adult Content:
In a scene at the high school, there is a rainbow cake, and some students are holding rainbow flags. Some outfits show cleavage. There is alcohol for toasting, and the two adults, while in the teens bodies, hold wine glasses.
Furthermore, a comment is made about “braiding hair in a non-cultural appropriating way.”
At a dance studio, a couple is learning to tango. The dance instructor says, “give me some big stallion energy” to the man. Several dance moves are sexually suggestive. Additionally, there are comments about being sexy, and Anna (while Lily is in her body) tries to hit on her old boyfriend Jake. She tries to act sexy, but doesn’t know what she is doing, and the scene is done in a comedic way. There are several kisses exchanged between couples throughout the movie.
However, Jake is still interested in Tess and asks her if her husband is dead.
Finally, someone makes a comment in a public place about a woman being on her period. Several other women chime in that they are on their periods too.

Freakier Friday Christian Movie Review – My Viewing Recommendations
While the original Freaky Friday film from 1977 is definitely outdated, the movie starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan from 2003, is the better version. Freakier Friday has few funny moments, and it is lacking overall.
While the storyline is fine, the movie pushes boundaries in several areas. The scene with Anna and her old boyfriend Jake is just weird and doesn’t get laughs. Furthermore, food fights are never as funny as filmmakers think they will be. I believe the demographic for this film is the same as the Barbie movie, but without a solid message for women. In fact, the only people in the theater were older couples past 50, and a few younger children.
The ending of the film is designed similar to the ending of the 2003 version. This “feel good” formula has everyone living “happily ever after,” but I know I just watched a convoluted train wreck of a film.
If you are looking for a Christian alternative to Freakier Friday, Switched (Pay to View on Amazon) or The Big Fix on Pureflix may be a better versions for your family.
