If you have spent any time over here, you will know that I love Disney. My entire family loves Disney. However, I am not a person who collects things. We would rather spend our money on trips to Disney than on bringing back souvenirs. Each and every room of my house has some Disney items, but they are usually pieces that are carefully chosen or serve a purpose. However, if I can find a way to incorporate a little Disney without breaking the bank, I jump at that chance. That is why I think you will love this DIY Disney sign made with Dollar Store materials.

The items I will buy while at Walt Disney World include pressed pennies (Jack-Jack collects those and they are just so fun to make and collect), Christmas ornaments, t-shirts (the quality of official Disney t-shirts is so far superior to what you get outside of WDW or The Disney Store), purses, ears, kitchen items such as towels, mugs, and utensils, and food (Mickey Rice Krispy treats, pretzels, caramel corn, and candy from the World Showcase Pavilion countries).

So as a homeschool mom who tries to save all her pennies for travel to Walt Disney World, I am faced with the dilemma of trying to find cute crafts and activities for my kids to learn valuable art lessons. Painting is such a great activity for my youngest son Jack-Jack, who is 14 and has autism. DIY DISNEY SIGN – DOLLAR STORE WALT DISNEY QUOTE SIGN

Upcycle a Dollar Store sign to create a farmhouse inspired Walt Disney quote with just some paint, buttons, and letter stickers. This DIY Disney sign is perfect for any home, any occasion and all Disney Lovers.

Materials:

Dollar Store Sign – 11” by 6”
Americana acrylic paint from DecoArt – Milk Chocolate (optional – if you like the look of the black frame, you may not want this paint), Lamp Black, Country Red; Titanium White
Paintbrush – 1” flat wash
Letter Stickers – Foam 1” bubble style; ¾” block style; ¼” typewriter style
Buttons – two large white 1 ¼” in diameter
Washi or Painters Tape
Ruler
Pencil
Eraser
Liquid Glue with fine tip applicator
Scissors
Craft Knife

Instructions to Create A Walt Disney World Quote Sign – DIY Disney Sign

Step One

If the frame of the sign is not already black, base coat sign frame with Lamp Black and then let dry. Dry brush Milk Chocolate randomly over the black frame to give the appearance of wood grain. Let dry.

Step Two

Apply washi or painters tape on inside edges of the sign. Measure down 6 ½” from top and apply a horizontal line of tape. Base coat the top portion of the sign with Lamp Black. Apply a second coat, if necessary. Let dry and remove horizontal line of tape.

Step Three

Apply horizontal line of tape at the bottom edge of the black paint. Base coat the bottom of the sign with Country Red. Apply a second coat, if necessary. Let dry and remove all tape.

Step Four

Select stickers to spell out quote. Money Saving Tip: dimensional letter stickers can be painted to match any project! Gently apply stickers to their plastic packaging and paint all letters Titanium White. Let dry.

Step Five

Measure and lightly pencil in guidelines for the quote. Carefully apply letter stickers.

Step Six

Apply small letter stickers to spell out author’s name (Walt Disney) using the tip of a craft knife for precise placement.

Step Seven

Attach two white buttons to the red section of the sign with Liquid Glue.
