Disneybounding: Toy Story 4 DIY Forky Shoes

When Toy Story 4 introduced Forky to their storyline, Jack-Jack (our 14-year-old autistic son) fell in love. Before the movie even came out, he watched a trailer and decided he wanted to make a Forky. We gathered all the supplies and got to work. But then I had a spark of inspiration. He likes to wear character t-shirts, but he also likes to Disneybound. If you are unsure of what that means, I explain it below. I had seen plenty of Forky clothing, but the shoes were expensive. So I decided to make him easy to craft and simple Forky Shoes. This DIY Forky Shoe tutorial is simple, inexpensive and ADORABLE!

MAKE YOUR OWN DIY FORKY SHOES:

I had the exact picture of what I wanted to make in my head. Oh my goodness, that never happens. Usually, I have an idea, but not a picture. Or if I do have a picture, it is overly complicated, I buy 7000 supplies when I only needed 3, and I have spent $$$$ too much money on the simple DIY project that I could have purchased for $40.

Even finding the supplies was easy this time around, and that never happens. Most the time it requires me going to 16 stores, and finally ordering online.

First, let me tell you – “Don’t get hung up on what Forky looks like.” The beauty of Disneybounding is capturing the essence of the character, and these shoes do just that. FYI: Disneybounding is dressing in regular clothes, but capturing the color and essence of the character you wish to portray.

• First, gather your supplies (See supplies above)

• Next, remove shoelaces from the shoes.

• Then, paint a portion of the rubber edge of the shoe. This is solely (Get the bad pun) a “do what you think looks best”, and depending on the shoe, you might have more or less than I did. There was a thin dark blue line, that I painted over. Allow to dry. I ended up with 3 coats of paint.

• Insert red shoelaces

• Next, glue on two different sized googly eyes. I added two to each shoe. This is also just a personal preference.

• OPTIONAL: Add your name or Bonnie’s name to the back of the tennis shoes. I used a permanent marker, but you can paint it on if you wish. Because the shoes are canvas, there was some bleeding of the marker, but that happens on a tongue depressor too.

• ALSO OPTIONAL: Finally, paint a rainbow on the side of the shoe.

VIOLA! Those are the simple steps to make your own DIY Forky Shoes. You now have Forky (or any other name you would like to give your shoes).

ADDITIONAL TIPS:

Add lips or eyebrows if you wish.

Get creative – use tan shoes and paint portions white.

Create an entire outfit – white pants, white/red shirt. Add googly eyes to your shirt.
