DOLLAR STORE CLOTHESPIN SNOWFLAKE CRAFT for KIDS

We are always looking for low-cost and easy crafts to do with our kids. Finding those crafts is sometimes hard, but with a little ingenuity, you can transform the most common items into amazingly useful items. At Christmastime and in the winter, I need to be able to keep the kids busy. This snowflake craft is made from simple Dollar Store wooden clothespins, and they transform into super cute snowflakes.

Often times when making a craft you end up having way more money in it than you anticipate. These can be made with simple materials that you can find easily. And they are beautiful! Additionally, these are a wonderful addition to a unit about snow or teaching with the movie Frozen. How about reading The Snow Queen and then watching Frozen. Make some hot chocolate and make these Snowflakes as a reminder of your day together!

Instructions for Making Snowflakes

STEP ONE

Gather all supplies. Remove the metal spring clip from the wooden clothespins. Not all children will be able to remove the metal clip, but once you get the hang of it, it really is easy.

STEP TWO

Flip the clothespin pieces and glue the flat sides together with a glue gun and glue sticks. Obviously, this step will need supervision depending on the age of the child. Additionally, younger children will need you to do this for them.

STEP THREE

Assemble each snowflake by creating a cross with four clothespins and then adding clothespins in the four diagonal sections. – They look beautiful without paint – don’t they?

STEP FOUR

Basecoat each snowflake with white craft paint using a paintbrush. Let dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. You may choose another color snowflake – (silver, gold, blue) while not technically accurate, will still make a beautiful ornament. Imagine Navy Blue with light silver glitter on your tree, sparkling at night.
