Lumaze Pittsburgh – Christmas Lights Bring Joy

Indoor Light Garden and Playground

I am a Social Media Ambassador for Lumaze Lights. This means I received a season pass for myself and my family for my honest review. All thoughts, opinions, and experiences are my own.

Christmas and Joy go hand-in-hand. And each year for Christmas we do a mix of holiday activities that we consider traditions and try to add new Christmas experiences to our traditions list. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Lumaze Pittsburgh with my family. What is Lumaze: Lost in Lights, you may ask?

What to know before you go to Lumaze Pittsburgh

ABOUT LUMAZE LIGHTS

Lumaze Lights are an indoor Christmas light displayed and fun for the whole family. The lights are designed to be interactive – part playground, part wonder, and full of amazement and shine!

Lumaze lights began in 2017 near Vancouver, Canada. Since then these wonderful lights shine in 10 cities across three countries. Pittsburgh is the first city in the United States! Yay Pittsburgh! (There is another location in Seattle, Washington)

GETTING THERE – LUMAZE LIGHTS PITTSBURGH

Lumaze is located at 31st Street Studios, 24 32nd Street, Pittsburgh, PA. Prepurchase tickets before you go. You will be given a one hour time window to arrive and are free to stay as long as you like.

ACTIVITIES for KIDS AT LUMAZE LIGHTS

A “scavenger hunt” can be played with cards that you stamp or a smartphone QR code to collect the stamps. A sweet prize is given at the end.

The Cavern of Lights are like big hanging icicles that are awesome to walk through. Imagine walking through a sea of lights that swing back and forth. Furthermore, there are more activities for kids such as a huge indoor playground, train ride, visiting Santa, the stepping stone lights, a small carousel and bouncing toys for toddlers.

AUTISM TIPS:

Lumaze is a sensory experience – lights, live music, food, and drink. There are children playing. Everything is large and lit up. While Jack-Jack is used to Disney, he did have a couple of meltdowns. Here are my best tips for navigating Lumaze lights with a child on the spectrum.

Bring noise-canceling headphones.

If your child is prone to run off, use a harness or similar devices. While Lumaze Lights in Pittsburgh is indoors, it is spread out over a very large area. It would be easy for a child to wander off.

Assign someone to watch your child. Take turns trading off so you all can experience Lumaze without distraction.

I was told that if you need a quiet, calm room, the changing room may be used. Additionally, the back of the main experience was calmer and is much quieter.

We were there opening night and there were crowds. Consider visiting on a weeknight.

The main room when you first walk in has live music. the food vendors and bathroom accessibility. There are picnic tables. Benches are found throughout the experience.

TIPS TO HAVING THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE:

Lumaze lights in Pittsburgh is housed in an old steel mill building. There is indoor/outdoor carpeting, but it still is an old building with bumps and dips in the floor. Wear comfortable footwear.

Parking is $20 for closer spots. However, there is less expensive parking further away, and a shuttle is provided.

Dress in layers. You will be walking to your car or taking a shuttle. When inside the building, we were comfortable without our coats on.

Food is available inside and there are food truck vendors outside.

The drinks are awesome! These light up Glow Bulbs are fun to drink from and are a great souvenir to take home to remember your experience.

Make sure to check out Lumaze online to see when tickets are available.

THINGS I LOVED ABOUT LUMAZE LIGHTS PITTSBURGH:

I love the concept of seeing Christmas Lights without the cold. One of the things I hate about living in Ohio and Christmas is the weather. To be able to experience the wonder of lights inside, out of the elements, was fantastic.

The Cavern of Lights was such a great interactive experience. It was something that we had never experienced before.

Another great aspect of this indoor light show was the number and variety of experiences

There are plenty of activities for the kids to experience.

Additionally, Lumaze Lights is new and unique holiday experience.

For more information, visit Lumaze Lights. Tickets are limited and some dates are already sold out. Make sure to buy your tickets soon. Don’t miss this incredible indoor wonderland.

MORE HOLIDAY TRADITIONS

Our family has other holiday traditions. One of our favorites is driving around some of the local neighborhoods to see how our neighbors decorate. Another favorite is watching our favorite Christmas movies. What are some of your Christmas traditions? Watch this blog for more things to do in the great State of Pennsylvania
