The iconic song, Let It Go, swept the world by storm when Frozen entered our world in 2013. With the release of Disney Frozen 2, I wondered if any of the songs would have the same effect. Furthermore, as I pondered the release of the new movie, I was wondering all the same things everyone else was wondering. In this Christian Mom Review of Disney Frozen 2 Movie, I answer your questions. Plus I give you all the information you will need to know if you are taking your children to see this movie.

If you would like more information about how I review movies, visit my movie review guidelines. Additionally, after my final recommendations, I do have some information for Christian parents regarding this movie, but be warned this information does include spoilers. I will give you plenty of warning to exit before the spoilers.

REINDEER GAMES — – In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2,” Kristoff and Sven find themselves among a herd of reindeer. Featuring Jonathan Groff as the voice of Kristoff (and Sven), “Frozen 2” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019. © 2019 Disney. All Rights Reserved.

Movie synopsis

In this new release by Disney, Elsa and Anna are living a fulfilling life in the nation of Arendelle. However, Elsa is hearing a voice calling to her from the Enchanted Forest. Elsa and Anna’s dad used to tell them stories about a time before when the forest became covered by a thick impenetrable fog. Now Elsa must follow the voice to find out the secrets to the past and her future.

Elsa, played by Idina Menzel, and Anna (Kristen Bell) are now three years older. They have settled into their roles as an adult queen and princess. Olaf (Josh Gad) is growing and learning every day, and Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) is contemplating his next steps.

Will Anna find the source of the voice? Will Kristoff and Anna take the next step in their relationship? How will the secrets of the past be unveiled?

YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT FROZEN 2 ANSWERED

New songs, fantastic imagery, and positive messages abound in Frozen 2. There are plenty of wonderful messages such as the song that Anna sings entitled, Do the Next Right Thing. This is a wonderful message for children. When you don’t know what to do, just do the next right thing.

Is Elsa Gay? Does Elsa Have a Girlfriend in Frozen 2?

These questions have been asked over and over again. In Frozen 2 Elsa does not have a love interest. She is fiercely independent. She doesn’t need any man or woman!

In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2, Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) and Olaf (voice of Josh Gad) venture far from Arendelle in a dangerous but remarkable journey to help Elsa find answers about the past. Is This Movie Suitable for Children?

Yes and No. If you are a Christian, you may have some problems with some of the content of the film (see below for spoilers), however, even without the content, this movie is much darker than the original Frozen.

My age recommendation is 7 and up, but I know that many children younger will be fine. There are a few scary moments such as huge rock monsters. With the advanced technology in the movie theater, it almost felt like the monsters were making the ground shake below us. There is also a battle with swords. It doesn’t last long and is not excessively scary. There are a few other scary scenes – one involves a tornado, and another is a black scene with scary eyes and a growling mouth with teeth showing.

Will the music of Frozen 2 drive me crazy?

I really don’t think it will. At first glance, there are no “Let It Go” type songs, but I do expect children to like most of the music. There are a couple of songs that I especially enjoyed. Lost in the Woods is performed by Jonathan Groff. This song reminded me of music by Chicago. During the end credits, my husband and I actually danced for this song. It is my favorite Disney song this year, and it definitely has a great beat. Furthermore, the song, Do the Next Right Thing, has a great message.

Did Disney Do Anything Spectacular With Frozen 2?

Yes. Once again, in true Disney fashion, they visited Norway, Finland, and Iceland and took what they learned about the landscape, culture, history, and myths, and made that come alive on the screen. Disney once again manages to bring elements together to not only tell a compelling story but also give me great material to teach my children.

Should I Stay For the End Credits?

Yes, Yes, Yes. I really don’t know why most people don’t stay, but this is definitely one end clip you will want to see.

Olaf and Sven
Trusted reindeer Sven and curious snowman Olaf (voice of Josh Gad) are up for an adventure in “Frozen 2.” They join Kristoff, Anna and Elsa on a journey into the unknown in search of answers about the past. My Recommendations:

I enjoyed this movie. Was it Disney’s best production? NO, but it was not their worst either. It is a Disney film worthy of seeing. Some Christians may object to the content, however, in an ever-growing world, I embrace these opportunities to learn more about other cultures, their myths, and their beliefs.

How Can You Use this Movie To Teach Your Children?

Do you know the story of the original Snow Queen? Do you know how the storyline differs from Disney Frozen? Use my research to give you a background and then springboard your child’s education from there.

One of the elements of  Disney Frozen 2 is that Elsa hears a voice calling to her. As a Christian movie reviewer, I believe that even when something doesn’t line up with Scripture, I can still use it as a teachable moment. In this movie, while the voice is not the voice of God, I do have a voice that calls to me. I believe that God calls us and the voice of the Holy Spirit guides us. This is an awesome way to teach about learning to hear God’s voice.

Additionally, Elsa is looking for answers to her past and undergoes a dangerous journey into unknown territory. Anna, while she sings the song, Do the Next Right Thing, takes things one step at a time, She doesn’t look too far ahead in the future. As Christians, we believe that God’s word – The Bible directs our steps and helps us to do the right thing. The Bible says, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet.”

Water has memory. This is a central theme of Frozen 2. While this is a fairytale, the water has memory is a true statement. A river always tries to return to its original path, and it picks up elements from its travels. This exciting journey into water is really just beginning, but you can teach your children even more about water memory. Additionally, scientists are finding out that water has memory far longer than our lifetimes.

While I hope your family enjoys Frozen 2, there may be some elements that you, as a Christian parent want to know before you go. I have detailed these Spoilers Below. If you do not want to know about these, please visit Snow Queen Versus Disney Frozen for more information about teaching your children.

What Christian Parents Need to Know In This Christian Review of Disney Frozen 2

There are many spiritual aspects in this film, but these are not just your normal – Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. These elements need to unite with a fifth spirit to unlock the mystical power keeping the Enchanted Forest from the rest of the world. The fifth spirit is found in the person of Elsa. This scene occurs toward the end of the movie. Elsa finds her true purpose.

Another item you may want to know about occurs when Elsa and Anna come upon the ship of their parents. They are able to find out what happened to their parents because Elsa uses her powers. She is able to use the “water has a memory” to see what transpired in the past.

Honeymaren in Frozen 2
(From Left to Right) HONEYMAREN – A member of the Northuldra, Honeymaren is a true free spirit and wants nothing more than to bring peace to the enchanted forest. She is bold and brave, with a reverence for the magic of nature. Rachel Matthews provides the voice of Honeymaren. RYDER – Eager and fun, Honeymaren’s brother Ryder embraces life with optimism. Ryder’s love of reindeer might just rival Kristoff’s – but unlike Kristoff, Ryder has never roamed the great plains outside of the Enchanted Forest. He longs to embrace the world and venture beyond the magical mist. Jason Ritter lends his voice to Ryder. YELANA – The unspoken leader of the nomadic Northuldra. She is fiercely protective of her family and community but is known to soften when people show an understanding of nature and their environment. Martha Plimpton was called on to bring Yelana to life. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019. © 2019 Disney. All Rights Reserved.

Disney used Nordic folk tales and mythical Spirits such as NOKK which appears as a horse. NOKK has the power of the ocean throughout this movie. It is a fairytale rooted in Nordic and Sami culture and mythical storylines. In fact, watching the movie you will encounter Sami culture, Norwegian nature, and reindeer herding.

My daughter and I watched Frozen 2 Saturday night and loved every minute of it. I truly enjoyed reading your review before hand and agree with your overall assessment of the movie. Thank you, not only for your upfront and honest review but, also answering many of the same questions other viewers might have before heading out to the theater.

Thank you for your comments. I am glad that my review was helpful.

Elsa is absolutely gay. They’ve confirmed to be giving her a gf in the 3rd movie. The song Let it Go is literally about coming out as a queer person.

First, “sources say” is not a confirmation that Elsa will have a girlfriend in Frozen 3. Furthermore, a spoiler like this would not be released by Disney before the movie is even made. Chris Buck, the co-director has even said he is not sure there will be a Frozen 3 so I guess it is a little premature to assume that Elsa will or won’t be gay. https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/will-disney-make-frozen-3.html/

I was actually quite interested to read the interviews that the director and writers did NOT want to go down that path, as they really wanted the emphasis to be on the sisterly bond, and to not take away from that.

Thanks for commenting. There were a lot of great things with this movie and a few not so great things, but overall it is a good movie.
          Thanks,
