(I have been given a weekend pass for my family in exchange for my thoughts and opinions of the Chicago Toy and Game Fair).

What to Expect at the Chicago Toy and Game Fair (ChiTag)

The Chicago Toy and Game Fair takes place on the 3rd weekend in November at the Navy Pier. This annual event hosts toy companies and so much more. The happenings during this weekend are “can’t miss.” But you are probably wondering what to expect at the Chicago Toy and Game Fair.

What to Expect at the Chicago Toy and Game Fair: The Toy Vendors

With big vendors such as Goliath Games, Lego, Razor, Mattel, Hasbro, PlayMonster, SpinMaster, Target, and Pressman Toys there are plenty of well-known, well-liked, and new to the market games to see. In addition, you can meet new inventors of toys exhibiting alongside the toy giants. Our favorite toys have come from both the big toy companies and the little guys just breaking into the toy space.

Play with these toys before you decide to buy. This hands-on exhibit hall gives you the chance to see the toys, interact with them, and see how your child responds to those toys. Who doesn’t love the concept of playing before you buy? And the age range of toys and games exhibited are suitable for infant to adult. There is literally something for everyone.

(Below) Marcus is playing with the inventor of the game of Klask. This is a fun game that is simple for everyone to learn and play. We first found this game in 2016 at ChiTag. They will be back again this year. And from their booth and who is playing, it is obvious that old and young love Klask.

What to Expect at ChiTag: The Exhibits

Ben’s Bubble Show: This show is mesmerizing; Jack-Jack will spend hours watching Ben perform. And it is an awesome display of talent. Unfortunately, I am mesmerized too and forget to take a photo each year. Maybe this year will be the year I remember!

Star Wars – 501st Midwest Garrison Legion: This group is made of individuals who have all made a movie-quality Star Wars costume and are passionate about Star Wars. This Imperial group entertains fans during the ChiTag Conference.

Meet the Famous Princess Etch-A-Sketch, Santa Claus, and more! Princess Etch-A-Sketch draws amazing designs on Etch-A-Sketch. Below she is holding a miniature Etch-A-Sketch where she has created Boo from Disney’s Monsters, Inc.

What to Expect at ChiTag: The Competitions

This year there is a Stratego Competition. There are two age divisions: Junior (8-15) and Senior (16 and up). Play for cash prizes and for the title of Champion. Register here.

Yo-Yo Championship: Watch as Yo-Yo Experts compete for yo-yo champion. I can barely keep a yo-yo going up and down. It is truly amazing to see what these individuals can do with a yo-yo.

Young Inventors Challenge: Peruse the submissions for the Young Inventors Challenge where young people have the opportunity to pitch their game ideas. One talented young person will win the new game of the year and actually have their prototype produced for sale. There are always exciting new ideas on the horizon. Which one will the judges choose?

What to Expect at the Chicago Toy and Game Fair: The Memories

One of our families favorite things involve the memories. We come home each year full of stories. We go for the weekend. Then we come home with toys and games that bring endless fun and laughter. Furthermore, we are able to share the games and stories with our extended family and friends. These memories are what makes us want to continue visiting each year.
