How to Keep Track of Baby Milestones

Blink – they are grown. Every mom of a teenager or adult will tell you how fast the time goes. From the moment you bring your baby home from the hospital to the moment they graduate, it seems that it flies by in a blink. Babies grow fast and your baby will soon be running through your house creating messes along the way. Parenthood! What joy! In fact, almost every parent would love that bundle of joy to stay little forever. However, remember this is all a part of the cycle of life. You want to record these important moments in your baby’s life. You will want to have these important baby milestones to share with your child and grandchildren. And you will thank me for them!

Helping Your Baby Sleep Through the Night and Other Tips for New Moms

I will help you find creative ways to document all those important moments from the first smile to sitting without help. When your child begins to crawl or pull themselves up, you have to be a little quicker. And then when he/she is running across the room getting into everything, you will be so busy keeping up. Without a plan in place to document these moments, you may miss too many of them.

Baby Photography is So Important!

Did you know that my daughter is a baby photographer? I am quite proud of the work she does. While baby photographs remain a popular way to record beautiful moments, you need to ensure that you capture all the moments with professional photographs. In fact, our family has always taken “semi-professional” photographs and I am so glad that we did. Check out Wild Wonder Photography to get a glimpse at the difference between regular photographs and ones taken by a professional. Invest the money – you will be glad you did.

Using a professional photographer makes a big difference if you want the best portraits. Not only will your friends ooh and awe over your baby, but they will be asking you where you got your photos done too! Additionally, getting some of the best photos printed is important, but also create a photo book for grandma (or yourself). You and your family will love these books. Make sure to begin documenting your baby’s journey before the actual birth with pregnancy photos and photos from your baby shower.

Memory Boxes Are Always a Hit!

through the years you will have so many special treasures. What will you do with baby’s first handprint? And each and every drawing and doodle is important too! Create a memory box to store the most important items that have great value in your child’s life. Another thought: Take photos of collections of drawings and store in folders on your computer. It takes much less room than saving every single drawing!

After your child starts to get a little older, you can have them create a memory box that has items that are important to them. You can have them do a yearly one or even one that spans a decade!

Memory App – Yes They Have Those!

Almost everyone has a smartphone. They seem to have taken over. Can you even remember a time before you had a smartphone? Besides playing games, we are now banking, shopping, keeping our schedules, and syncing up with our loved ones all on mobile apps. You probably used an app to track your cycle and found out you were pregnant because of that tracking. You probably also tracked your pregnancy with an app. Consider using apps to keep track of your child’s most important milestones.

Apps can be an online journal. Record baby milestones and moments in your life. Calendars can organize the important dates and tracking all the important milestones means you will have this information forever!.

Physical Journal to Record Baby Milestones

Do you journal? The difference between a journal and a diary is that while a diary records your personal feelings and what has happened, journals often are just a record of what happened. Consider starting a journal during those late-night feedings. You can either record in a letter format such as “Dear Joey: Today you took your first step,” or in a journal format, “Today I watched Jill walk across the stage at her kindergarten graduation. Where has the time gone?” When you share this will your child, you can select a special day such as when they are leaving for college or have their first child. And they will recognize the love and devotion that went into this creation.

Use a Yearly Physical Calendar

After watching how my youngest son, Jack-Jack, responds to a calendar, I wish I would have created a yearly physical calendar for him. What should you record on the calendar? Vacations, sick days, birthdays for family and friends, days important people died or got married, and even when you went to watch a movie or visit a museum. All these dates will have an important connection to your child. Additionally, even as adults we think we will remember when something happened or that we visited the Grand Canyon before the Hoover Dam, but trust me when I say, we don’t remember! Having a record will be a great remembrance!

Emails to Your Baby

Many people are signing their children up for emails at birth and even social accounts to hold the name. Send an email to them to create a journal online. This online system can also be used to tell a story later in life. These emails don’t have to be long. Once a week or month, compile all the events – vacations, baby milestones, and more and send.

Watching your child grow into an adult is one of the sweetest things a parent experiences. This journey into adulthood can be marked by special moments and key milestones. Spending some time today to document them will ensure you don’t forget. And take it from a mom who did a horrible job at this. You don’t want to forget these moments!
