When I read on a friend’s blog that her son loved Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood App (#PeterandtheWolfApp), I wanted to check it out for myself. I downloaded the app (on my iPad), and then I had the opportunity to apply to host a party. I was excited to be selected.
We were sent a party box with supplies by MomSelect and Giants are Small. We did a video of the unboxing. You can see our awesome party supplies that I was given.
If you don’t know the original story of Peter and the Wolf, you can find it at a local library, but I think it is best listened to. In the original story and composition written by Sergei Prokofiev (a Russian composer), Peter, the wolf, the duck, etc. all are represented by musical instruments. Peter lives with his grandparents. Hunters are tracking the wolf and Peter captures it alive.
In the new version, Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood, Peter travels from Russia to Hollywood to live with his grandfather. Peter’s grandfather is the caretaker for an elite family. A wolf escapes from a local jail and Peter is determined to catch the it.
The story is narrated by rock legend, Alice Cooper. Surprisingly, when I hear Alice speak, I don’t think, “Wow, that is Alice Cooper.” His voice is great for this story. I actually had another friend interview Alice Cooper in conjunction with The Peter and the Wolf project. You can read her interview here!
The new Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood App is 48 minutes of fun and music. The iPad deluxe version comes with games throughout the story.
Last week I was traveling and was not able to over plan for my party. I tend to make things too complicated. Anyway, the party that I threw can be had simply and easily. In fact, you can pick any book or theme and throw a simple last minute party that your children will love and enjoy without overtaxing yourself.
One thing I have learned from my years of parenting is to reserve the big parties and the elaborate displays for the things that matter most (weddings, showers, 50th anniversary parties). If you make every party over the top, the really special occasions don’t seem so special anymore.
With the help of MyPrintly.com and Aleene’s I was able to easily print off some cute and special touches for my party with minimal effort. MyPrintly.com has great printables available for free. Just download and print! Aleenes.com has a host of crafts and projects for you to create!
I did receive a box full of goodies to help throw the party.
BUILD A ROBOT: In the story Peter builds a robot. I cut out various shapes for robot heads, bodies, arms and legs. Using metal fasteners (brads), the children put together robots and glued on wiggly eyes. This was a fun and easy activity.
Using buttons of the characters, children took turns picking a button and acting out the character.
We watched Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood using the app for the iPad. Everyone enjoyed it. The app can be downloaded on both the iPad and the iPhone here! There is also an audio album available.
Moms and kids all had fun. It is great to have a reason to get kids together for something besides playing video games. Check out the Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood App and have a musically good time!
(Disclosure: My post is part of a promotional program in conjunction with MomSelect. The FTC requires me to say that I was given a free party kit in order to host the Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood MommyParty.. But because I have a relationship with Jesus Christ I am bound to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. In other words my opinions cannot be bought with a party kit, and therefore, the thoughts and opinions expressed on this blog are entirely mine.)
